JamesB
Yes yes but running is the most convenient and calorie-efficient exercise. For both mountain biking and rowing, you need equipment and more time. Running is just a case of slipping on some shoes and getting out the front door. (and the people I train with do triathlon)
Calm Chris
Or working harder. I'm not doing a Tough Mudder. Ninja wifey has an oversized team including SBS man, marathon man, 2 PT's and a few girls (that look like blokes). I've done some runs, bike rides & hill stuff I've lost 7 Kgs over the last year and bounce about at a 60 kg average. I can run a few miles and not get f&cked, do 10 km hacks on the bike, I lift and shift most working days and am on my feet 14 out of 24 hours. The last fecking thing I need is exercise or keeping fit. Exercise isn't a real requirement in my world because 97% of stuff I do is exercise. Reason I won't do the Tough Mudder is because I will end up carrying injuries, 55 next birthday and have broken bones from bikes and fights. Push those bones hard and they hurt, and worse, they incapacitate.

I have also seen many overweight and unfit manual labourers...
garcon magnifique
You could have two Chris's and they'd still weigh less than me. Just. I can't remember what my plans were but my reason/excuse is the same as James's. Achilles Tendonitis in Feb which hasn't yet entirely gone away. In my case it curtailed walking rather than running so I should be grateful I haven't put on more than a couple of pounds and half an inch. Time to get out walking again and actually be serious for once about my diet. Not getting any worse really isn't enough.
Andrew
I'm about 93kg - last time I ran the London marathon (i 2006) I was 81. I'm still considering Edinburgh marathon but my heart just isn't in it. I'd love to do the Devizes to Westminster again but the family, being 400 miles from the Thames when at home, and a new job to boot means that isn't remotely likely. Andy_Bangle
You do realise the only reason Mook started this thread was to solicit pictures of hot and sweaty blokes in lycra Ignore all PM requests from him for your own safety.

bazza_g
Haven't chipped in on this thread before but decide to make some lifestyle choices mid June this year, cut down booze, eat better and most importantly - got back in the saddle and the pool. Still can't run, the infamous bazza visits LeMans hospital incident as seen to that with a decidedly dodgy Achilles tendon (think lots of scar tissues from 2 ops and no flexibility). On the plus side I have a routine, very important, Mondays and Wednesday is swimming (1 mile, 64 lengths or 2km, 80 lengths). Tuesdays & Thursdays is 2 laps of a 9 mile route roughly 1/3 road and 2/3 broken ow path/fields/mud/bumps. Rest on a Friday, then a longer ride Saturday morning 3-4 laps, max being 5 laps so far and chill Sunday or a swim if I'm at a lose end. Not kept any sort of track of weight loss, the lack of scales doesn't help, but visually I look better and much less squishy lol! Putting right 20 years of abuse isn't going to be solved in 6 months but definitely feel better, tons of energy and on the right track. Also happier bank balance with less clubbing/pubbing/boozing If anyone is thinking about having a bit of a 'get fit' purge - just do it, if I can discipline myself enough then anyone can

Andrew
I hate rowing. I do it anyway but god alive, I can barely open my eyes or hold my head up after a sharp blast to end a session on a Concept 2. A minute feels like an eternity.
Drinks
Not sure if I hate the concept2 or the turbo trainer the most. Indoor training is torture, just watching the time ticking down so slowly. Ankle/calf already playing up 2 weeks into my Base training plan ahead of Ironman Wales training. Not sure what I'm going to do. Went for a sports massage on my calf on Wednesday and seems better and have just completed a slow 45 min run at lunch and it seems to be holding up, so far. NewNiceMrMe
I'm running the London, Boston and New York marathons. I'm competing in 178 Iron Man competitions, 65 triathlons and will rowing around the world - twice. In a week. Inbetween this I shall be representing Team GB in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10000m, triple jump, long jump and high jump at the IAAF World Championships. There. What do I win? Andrew
I guess just competing in these events does;t mean you actually have to finish - or even get very far ...
Soulboy
You're better off not using the scales Bazza. Just keep doing what you're enjoying doing......the added benefits of getting fitter don't need to be analysed. Early start for me. We have got a heavyweight fighting next Sat, so got an hours sparring and pads to do
