"The player Luis Suárez is banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four (4) months in accordance with art. 22 of the FDC."

Does that mean he'll miss the first 2.5 months of the premiership??? (If he's still with Liverpool)?

That's pretty spineless, given the punishments handed out to players for lesser and singular offences.

Yes, but, it's more than I was expecting given his legal representative also happens to be a FIFA official, and the Uruguayan FIFA committee were denying there was any evidence against him whatsoever.

such as what?

It is the longest ban FIFA have handed out (albeit by only 1 game).

And the worldwide ban affects the club really not his country.

Rio - 8 months for missing a drug test.

Cantona - 9 month ban for the 'Kung Fu' incident.

Yes, they're FA decisions, but they make the Suarez ban look lenient - especially taking into account that it's his 3rd such offence, on top of a ban for making racist comments during a game.

(Some international ones: Mahmoud - 1 year for spitting at a referee, Rojas - lifetime for faking an injury, Pinto - 6 month ban for 'striking' a referee)

I don't get the Scouse 'victim' mentality on this one - he's a LFC employee, even if on international duty, so they also have a responsibility for his actions.

If you or I had done that, we could well be facing community service / police caution / custodial sentence - and if we'd done it at work, we'd be fired.

He's incredibly lucky with such a small and relatively insignificant ban.

It doesn't do their image any favours that they've come public and admitted they're 'considering action', though.

They should be supporting the ban to make a statement to the footballing world that they're no longer going to tolerate that kind of misconduct. After the T-shirt debacle, it's surely the only way forward for them?

Unless they really do think it's acceptable to have an employee going around biting people in the workplace.

I totally agree with you but they also need to consider the fans point of view which seems to be ban him from internationals but not from club football.

I see this as a way of pacifying them and then when the heat dies down a bit they'll likely drop it.

I don't see the link to Tyson at all.  Tyson was a complete thug with very serious mental issues.

Don't label all of football rotten just because of Suarez.  It is a far too often used and easy insult from those who don't really know much about the wider sport at all.

Such as Arsenal fans. :grin::P

I'm not excusing Tyson, but he does have the defence that he's participating in a sport where the actual objective is to hurt the opponent, in Football it is not.

See what I mean. So a boxer, who is meant to box, ie with his hands and actually bites off someone's ear is 'meant to hurt someone'.

Not like footballers! Please.
