Froch v Groves

I don't think, from memory, you like Tyson Fury do you MrMe? In which case, this quote on the BBC made me think of you:

British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury: "Sick of people asking me about Groves-Froch. They are two 12-stoners, I'd slap the pair of them. #sizematters, it's all about the heavyweights."

I did say it'd depend on stamina....

Off on a slight tangent - I really rate Kell Brook as well as Joshua of the new wave Brits.

Brook is a superb boxer.  I'm just not convinced his power will carry as the opponents get better.

He has everything required to be a world champion, but whether he'll become an elite fighter or not is something else altogether.

Well the best man won (again) and hopefully Groves may be a bit more humble going forward.

He is still young and can improve - and make a comeback in time. But you can't take many shots like that without risking permanent brain damage.

Much as I love boxing, I hate seeing fighters knocked senseless.

Looking forward to Cotto v Martinez next weekend now.

This is a great little vid of each of them training on YouTube. Martinez has a very difficult punching style....you see it on the vid.

Training Motivation: Miguel Cotto - The Fire Stil…:

Training Motivation: Sergio Martinez - The World …:

I think Groves will have a very hard time coming back from that.

The KO was huge, the venue was huge, the hype matched both. It's a big, big, way to lose. I hope he does because he's a talented fighter who sold this fight and made it what it was. He's also young enough. It'll be interesting to see how he handles it though.

I had it about to become even on scorecards and I don't know what planet Jim Watt lives on. The sooner they get rid of him, the better. Malignaggi is excellent though.

Credit to Froch. He had that punch waiting and the slight dummy before it set Groves up perfectly. Tactically you could say it was a bad error from Groves but you've got to hand it to Froch for getting so much power behind it. Nobody comes back from those shots.

I see him zipping of to Vegas now for an easy KO of Chavez and a big pay day to retire on. Whether Chavez will want it after seeing that, I'm not so sure.

Bika is a no go. I see little point. Ward is now in the desert. Two fights since 2011 and reluctant to travel. He may be the top man in the division but last night showed that fans want entertainment and the worst thing possible for Ward was for Froch to win in such devastating style. Perhaps he'll offer a rematch in Vegas now? I doubt it and he'd win anyway if they did get it on, but I think Froch earned an easier fight last night and that means Chavez.

As for De Gale...

Well I don't know what Gonzales had been drugged with but that was a very different fighter to the one everyone has wanted to avoid (outside of the top fighters). The comments on landing in the UK on Tuesday made sense. Perhaps that had hit him.

Either way, De Gale is not someone who will get a shot at Froch. He'll vacate the belt. Why would Froch fight De Gale? The man brings nothing to the table and did little to convince me he's a serious contender last night. His hoping for a Groves KO was also poor and he needs a slap for that. He didn't change to a more sporting perspective after the KO either. He might want to remember what Groves did to him and show some humility.

Delighted for Mitchell and he should now get a final chance with a fight against Vasquez. I can't see him winning it but he does at least merit one last title shot.

As for Joshua, well Hearns said he'll fight Matt Skelton in July. That would be his first serious test but again one he should come through. Skelton is old and very static now so I suspect all they want to do is see how much power Joshua really has.

I'll say this though - if you think De Gale is a real talent, I think you're deluded.  A brilliant amateur but not made out for the pro ranks and he was rightly and easily beaten by Groves.

Still think I am "Deluded" ? :roflmao:

As for De Gale being easily beaten by Groves, you must have been watching a different fight?

If you ask any two boxing critics about that fight you will get two different opinions, it was that close

What a refreshing change, someone who has the Boxers welfare at heart

Rather than the "Schadenfreude" crowd, who constantly whine about refs stopping fights to early, after a boxer takes a serious  "Concussive" blow

The ref is closer to the boxers than any of the plethora of "Armchair" experts, and has far more practical experience of what constitutes a boxer "In trouble" than pretty much anyone else bar the boxers themselves

On last nights "Stoppage" of Groves, rewind to ref Howard Foster (The best in the business) stopping the 1st fight, and check out Groves body language after he got caught flush with three shots from Froch on the ropes, then compare with his body language after he eventually got to his feet and staggered to the corner last night, look familiar?

Howard Foster saved Groves from a complete lights out punch that night, for which he got a load of sh1te from people who should know better

The thing is head shot don't hurt.

Body shots hurt like fcuk.... But you can keep walking onto head shots, unless you get knocked out.

Then years later the damage make itself known. Something like 30% of ex boxers have brain damage. No wonder so many have slurred speech or Parkinson's.

I love boxing, but I really dislike big knockouts.

Just seen it on YouTube - in real time you can't really work out how good it is. Slowed down and man alive, that was some shot. And Groves' face before it lands doesn't look perturbed at all, i.e he didn't even see it coming!

Yes I do.

You seem to think he's a serious contender.  I don't.

Not to mention the fact you demonstrated your complete lack of knowledge on the sport by writing that he was fighting a completely different boxer.... :roflmao:

Sky's coverage as always was excellent. They had every angle covered. The knockout punch was shown from about 5-6 different angles. One of them, from behind Froch, showed it the best.

£16.95 sounds a lot but these days that's what, 4 pints?

You'd get 5 for that around here, or 8 (admittedly of something barely resembling piss) at the student bar, assuming you can bare to be in there.
