Arch
Now available in the UK. :-) Anyone taking a punt, for £1k? As Duncan Bannatyne might say, ahhm oot.
patently
Half that price, and capable of integration into a set of normal-looking prescription specs, and I'll have a set quicker than you can say "Massive intrusion into every else's privacy and selling my soul and personal data to one of the scariest organisations on the planet" At £1k, looking like a dork, and meaning I have to wander around walking into things because I can't wear my proper glasses, no thanks

Booster
The amount of people having their phones snatched from their hands by little feckers on bikes is bad enough. These will be easy pickings!
NewNiceMrMe
I've been on the waiting list for the UK release for about 6 months now (since you could sign up). I got my email the day before general release. It's a shame that last week I'd read a mass of reviews completely panning Google for not developing the product enough since release. I have relinquished the opportunity. Edited June 26, 2014 by NewNiceMrMe
Tipex
I just can't see the appeal. Apart from making you look like an utter, utter bell end, they just don't do anything you can't already do with the phone you already carry in your pocket. NewNiceMrMe
Apart from making you look like an utter, utter bell end, they just don't do anything you can't already do with the phone you already carry in your pocket. I agree with the first part. However, they do allow you to do things you can't do with your phone because of the way you interact with them. They see things - hence why they're glasses. So they're always interpreting data. Unless you walked along holding your phone up with an app running that always looked in the direction your head turned, and interactively 'read' what it saw, then there is no similarity at all. The problem is that once they've read the 'data' - you can't do enough with it.
patently
you can't do enough with it. I bet Google can, though. Or will, at least
Tipex
I still don 't see the point, they can only see what my eyes can see, and i've already seen anything they can see.
Torino101
Do they show what they are recording?? Otherwise couldn't there be a big privacy issue??? People wearing them into changing rooms etc.
Cuprabob
Think of all those videos you can post of people pulling out in front of you on the.pavement as you walk along. The dash cam brigade can now record journeys out of their cars:-) Edited June 26, 2014 by Cuprabob

Mac
I still don 't see the point, they can only see what my eyes can see, and i've already seen anything they can see. It's a very short sighted view in reality. I've used 'Glass quite a bit...and it's a bit too early adoption even for me, who puts up with crashing everything cos I like to use the new cool. Here's the thing though, I've seen how 'Glass is supposed to work, and it's not that far away. Trick is though to get the tech into an easily wearable tech. It's an odd thing to explain - area info for example, just auto-scans what's in sight and gives you more info on it - by certain eye moves (which will become automated and second nature) dives into that information. It's a staring point. Couple it to cars and it'll be highlighting issues before your brain can see anteing etc. I utterly get the reservation, but the possibilities are amazing - and you have to start somewhere. patently
It lets you dictate tweets, too. Tipex
Sorry but I just don't get it. I can understand the tech behind them, and how it could be useful in other applications, but it just makes no sense to me whatsoever in form of glasses. Why would I possibly want to have a constant stream of information in front of me while i'm walking about? It will only be a distraction, and if I see something interesting, I can just pop my phone out of my pocket and look it up. I'm all for gadgets and tech, but when it's just tech for techs sake, and provides no discernible benefit, then I don't see the point.

patently
I'm going to get rid of my laptop. Why would I possibly want to have a constant stream of information in front of me wherever I happen to be sitting? It will only be a distraction, and if I see something interesting, I can just nip over to the desktop PC and look it up.

The problem here though is it is a view in isolation from you when you already admit you don't really 'get' social media, or why people click on adverts, etc (and that isn't an insult or meant to offend ). I see data go across my screen every minute of every day. Most of it is telling me what people do in their online lives. I look at it and think "I don't do that". But, the key is that other people do. The same applies with Google Glass. Once the tech and software is right, people will use it, whether someone else sees the point of it or not. I despise Google but they are very, very good and predicting the future and taking people there. Wearables are going to be in collosal demand. 5 years from now I would forecast at least half of the people on here that have a smartphone will have at least one wearable. Torino101
I despise Google Really? I'm sure in your professional capacity you have your reasons behind this. Just surprised to see someone this vehement about them, simply because as a whole they are not a firm that generally I've seen people have strong feelings against. Far from just in a professional capacity. I'm surprised you've not seen people have strong feelings against them too. They steal data and hide policy change. A very simple fact. They operate in a way entirely differently to all other companies. There is a reason Microsoft have been able to run an advertising campaign with the words "Sit back and keep calm whilst Google steal your data" - because they cannot be technically challenged on it. It is legal fact. Edited June 27, 2014 by NewNiceMrMe
Tipex
You need to try a proper one TipEx, it's not anything like as distracting as you imagine. That's a fair point of course, I've not used one so I don't really have any experience to base it on. I just can't think of a scenario whereby I think i'd find it useful? The way I imagine them, is that you are walking along the street, and it just works like those augmented reality apps, whereby it just pops up a load of useless information based on the landmarks around you? Obviously it connects to social media too and i'm sure it does other stuff, but why would anyone want to be permanently connected to Facebook/Twitter? I'm obviously not an average user (I don't even check my Twitter account any more, got bored of that), but I go on Facebook once or twice a day, and that's it, I don't want, or need it constantly streaming in front of me, and I find it a little bit sad that some people do. drpellypo
I use social media as an almost exclusive marketing tool for the business. I'd say 90%+ of lead generations come from Facebook. It's a phenomenal tool when you know how to manipulate it, and having easy access to it is appealing. I'd have google glass if it wasn't for the fact that you look silly. But I'm sure that will change soon enough.

That's part of what the idea does, but there's some significant additions - the technology learns what you may be interested in, and gives you as much or as little info as you'd like. Also it adds intelligence to searches - say for example you search for the location of a local kebab shop and how to get there...You'll get a little arrow pop up pointing it out as you approach for example. It is kinda spooky - I've used some the very early stuff over at Microsoft labs, and if you can forget the size of the headset (it's early stuff after all..and significantly more powerful than Glass) you find yourself just accepting its displays without really thinking about it. I'm massively curious about the technology, and its overall potential.
