People only see the big headline fights whilst there are bouts taking place every week (that matter too). Take the fight between Lomachenko and Marriaga a week ago for the WBO world super featherweight title. A quite stunning performance from Lomachenko but few in the UK would see a great deal about it. The press conferences hardly drew a single glance in the UK outside of boxing fan forums but it was an absolutely incredible display and proves that not everything is scripted or high drama before the ring. Soulboy Posted August 27, 2017 Author Report Share Posted August 27, 2017 Well at least Mayweather v McGregor gave the (over)paying public something for their money. I haven't watched it - but press reports seem to suggest it was a likely outcome. Mayweather takes him past 25 minutes (MMA bout length) then dishes out a boxing lesson to the younger, fitter, stronger, more powerful man. Punch landed ratio was 53% to 26%. Says it all really. Love him ir hate him - Mayweather is one of the world's greatest defensive boxers and strategists. I will be looking forward to watching the Cotto v Kamegai fight later. After the MAY v MCG circus the other week (did people honestly pay to watch that?) it was everything a top notch fight should be. ... Except the result. GGG should have got the decision in my book. I think he is actually a robot - just never stops coming forward! I had Golovkin winning by 4-5 rounds but I'm afraid I still think he's hyped because of his style. I'm more concerned about an idiot giving it to Canelo by 7 rounds than anything else. The judge who scored it a draw needs a slap too - ideally from Anthony Joshua. Excellent fight, terrible end result and I don't think the fighters or promoters can be blamed. A rematch won't see a different result. It was patently clear that all the swinging of arms in the world from Canelo can't match the cutting down of the ring and sheer persistence of Golovkin. It'd end in a KO or serious injury next time. My view on Canelo changed dramatically when I saw how good a contest Khan gave him for a while. That was a mismatch on paper and, whilst the result was a stoppage, if Canelo couldn't take Khan out early than he was never going to do that to GGG. He's a decent boxer make no mistake but not the great fighter some in the states would have you believe. What is not in doubt is that he is the golden boy in that area of the world and creates big money fights. Only a kO can beat him on home turf because as last night proves, the money men won't let him lose, he's too valuable for the major players and string pullers. I thought GOL would tire in the latter rounds because of his age and CAN would land a few bombs. If anything it was the opposite. Good defence from both of them. And they can both take a shot. However, I'd say GGG is the all round better fighter who can offer more in future than Canelo ever could. I think Brook caused GGG more problems than Canelo did (for as long as his eye socket held up anyway). However, I still think the division is ripe for a real star coming into it and cleaning up. I like GGG as a person because he's clearly a very decent, honest and respectful guy. I'd just like to see him bring a bit more to his style and approach. To have her fight cancelled at such late notice is absolutely appalling and her opponent should be subject to serious investigation to find out whether she should ever be allowed to box again. Seen two things with him in recently with Bear G and also the BBC Fight of my Life prog; he is funny, down to earth and has exactly the sort of attitude that all sportspeople should exude. He comes across as a very genuine and honest guy and I'd be surprised if he didn't win SPOTY although boxers don't generally fare well on it. He can swing and he can hit, but Joshua is a completely different animal to anyone he has faced previously. I've yet to see Wilder get caught with a full punch and that's more to do with the quality of his opponents than his skill. I'm not saying he's clueless because he's a very gangly and tricky boxer. However, if Joshua hits him, which he will, I think it is lights out in potentially spectacular style. I think Dillian Whyte could beat Wilder too. I know I keep banging on about Rigo on here but he is a simply stunning boxer imo. My favourite boxer in recent history by some margin. His footwork is other worldly... AJ will demolish Parker, then do the same to Wilder, then KO Fury within 3 rounds. There, said it. Eubank Jnr will smash Groves to bits when they eventually meet unless Callum Smith pulls off what he's capable off and takes that title. He could well do that. My money would be on Eubank Jnr though. He is developing into a complete animal. Billy Joe Saunders will lose his title. In other divisions, Lomachenko will clean up through the weights and retire unbeaten. I can see that happening. Kell Brook is finished too. I hate to say it, but I can't see him coming back anything like he once was. Amir Khan, strawberries and cream King, he's done too. One last big fight for a pay check, then he's out. Haye to destroy Bellew in a rematch and then find nobody wants to face him until AJ cleans up and then smashes him to bits too.
