stooH
My daughter has somehow managed to lose her iPod touch, we've pretty much turned the house upside down. Normally i'd say tough sh!t you lost it, your problem but wifey *thinks* she may have put it somewhere for safe keeping before we went on holiday (we've not seen it since we got back). It's now starting to cause issues, when she's allowed some time to play after her homework she heads for sons xbox then arguments ensue. So I was thinking about trying to pick up a refurbed one from somewhere, however, like all Apple products they retain their value stupidly well so they're not massively cheap and I don't want to pay a load for a duffed up one. Does anyone know a reputable place that sells refurbed iPod Touches for not crazy money. Or do I just bite the bullet and buy her new one (might hold off for her birthday next month in that case). Chick
not sure what discounts are offered but we usually buy from the apple refurb store ...... or yes wait a month and get her a new one! It'll no doubt turn up when least expected
Waylander
Was in the same predicament with daughter's Nintendo DS a couple years ago although that was nicked after bag was dropped in our front garden. In the end I just bought her a new one for her bday...although now she has an ipod i doubt she would even know if i flogged it! tough call - as said above the refub store products seem to be excellent so no real issue with getting a new one or getting a refurb I would say if you save abit. I take it you can't stretch the wait to End-Nov for the Black Friday sales?
Tipex
Personally I'd just pop in to one of the better known second hand shops. There are no moving parts, so there is nothing to 'refurb' aside from a clean and polish, which most second hand shops will do anyway.
stooH
Guess I could take a look at somewhere like CEX? Seems a touch harsh getting it for her birthday particularly as Mrs H is umming and aahing and can't remember if she did put it somewhere. The other thing is we had builders in whilst we were away, used them for years with no problems but know he had his nephew with him helping out, just gives me that nagging feeling.... Waylander
I see your point re pressie - unless you upgraded (got the 32gb rather than the 16gb or whatever) at the same time?
Arch
Game? Or CEX as you say. I went the route of old unused iphone for daughter as 'ipod' instead. Rather than flog them, as i cba, as ive upgraded shes had rebuilt 3G, then 4, now 4S. Works same same. Not sure if cheaper/easier solution for you? stooH
I've not got an old iPhone knocking around, so no But thanks for the suggestion Looks like I can get an 8gb White 4th Gen iPod Touch in reasonable nick from CEX for £80 so might go down that route. To be honest she didn't have masses on there so won't miss the 16 -> 8gb adjustment. As long as she's got her favourite games and music from Jessie J, Katy Perry et al she won't notice the difference.
Waylander
Is it a 4th Gen she had? You could get a new 5th gen 16gb for about £130 (Amazon always seem to have 1 colour on a special) or used from ~£100 http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00D6DCBX2/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1412686293&sr=8-1&keywords=ipod+touch&condition=used
Chick
think long term tho' StooH, no point buying cheap to end up buying twice ..... eldest daughter is now 13 and she has so many photos and a lot more music on her iphone than she did 3 years ago when she first had it, next upgrade will have to have bigger memory. Don't forget JL do another years warranty to Apple, maybe get family (uncle's, GP's etc) to put towards a new one (if you buy from Apple you can get engraved for free too) plus maybe get her a speaker docking station? Waylander
Yep. Miss 'Lander has already had to delete pix from hers and iOS upgrades are only getting bigger...
stooH
Good suggestions, she's already got a docking station but I could ask her if she wants a new upgraded iPod for her birthday. My Dad works for the John Lewis group so think he can get 12.5% off electricals, although a fiver more than Amazon does give you the extra year. All food for thought! Only problem with doing that for her birthday is having to wait through 7 more weeks of sibling bitching/fighting/nagging Edited October 7, 2014 by stooH
CarMad
Don't forget that Apple are updating the iPads on the 16th of this month, who knows they might update some of the rest of the range at the same time. So you might be able to get the older model at a better price.
