So anyone treating themselves?

Its expected that Apple will announced new iPads, Retina maybe 5K iMac and finally the Launch of OS X Yosemite.

I think its time to upgrade my iPad 2 so I think I might take a look at the new iPads and I'm already using Yosemite that has some great new features. Its a bit weird when the laptop rings when someone calls your mobile and you can answer it or use it to make a call but it works really well. Lots of other new features as well so worth an upgrade.

Apple 'accidentally' revealed the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 yesterday.

An official user guide for iOS 8 in the iTunes Store has apparently had its screenshots updated ahead of schedule; both new iPads are pictured, and the images reveal each will have a Touch ID fingerprint sensor. Aside from the addition of Touch ID, it seems these latest iPads will look nearly identical to their predecessors.

A year old Macbook Pro Retina with SSD and an iPad Air here - and no intention of changing.

I will keep the Macbook for years and years.  It is a beast and I'm not inclined to constantly upgrade PC tech.

The iPad Air is a stunning device and I upgraded to it from an original iPad, so I skipped 3-4 generations before upgrading.  I'll do the same with this one.

The only thing on that upgrade image I would like is the Touch ID sensor, but it'd never be a deal clincher for me.

Anyone buying either of the devices will be delighted, I'm sure.  Wonderful machines and tablets.

I think that is going to be part of the next iOS release and going to be one of the 'big' things for the new iPA2 or at least that is the rumour.

That and the new 12.9" iPad to be launched Q1 next year, not sure I will want to be playing a driving game on that I don't think.

Dumb question alert.

With Black Friday approaching and the new ipad's due out, I'm guessing there will be some fairly good deals on the current Air model.

Not knowing much about them here is the dumb question. Can I use my nano sim (Three) from my iphone6 in the Ipad Air (obviously one that is 4g enabled)?

I need to replace my macbook at some point in the near future, good timing for a change it seems +++

Updates to MacBooks won't be until next year when the new processors are released. Intel has delayed them massively but for many the performance difference will be very small I'd expect. +++

You sometimes get a load of the older model arriving onto the Apple refurb site, but its not a huge number as Apple keeps virtually no inventory.

And yes I don't see why the SIM couldn't be swapped.

"Deals" on Macbook's and iPads are so few and far between, even on Black Friday and the refurbished store, it is almost pointless waiting to see what can be had.

If you stumble across one at the time you'd like one, it's different.

However, I know a few people who have "waited for the deal" and they've all ended up disappointed with what "deal" actually means in Apple-speak.:roflmao:

I'm in the market for an IPA2 for me (for the new job and its travel) and am musing a Mac Air for the Mrs for Xmas. Her Windows PC takes 20 mins to boot and her Kindle Fire HD isn't quite up to the game anymore - despite being only 18 months old.

My accountant just texted me to say, "At the risk of sounding like your mother, do you really need an iPhone, an iPad and a MBP?"

Bloody bean counters. :P

Here's a vaguely interesting* question though...

For the purposes of claiming VAT back on a capital purchase over 2 grand (as per fixed rate VAT scheme rules), and assuming I buy them all at the same Apple store at the same time, does an iPhone and an iPad and a MBP, er, and maybe a Thunderbolt display ... and, er, various essential peripherals and accessories ... (and breathe) ... all count as a single purchase?

* to literally nobody

If they're all bought at the Apple store at the same time then you'll get a single invoice.  That is a single purchase because it is a single transaction.

HMRC even give a very similar example:

"..a computer package (computer, printer, camera, scanner, speakers etc.) bought as one package is one purchase of capital expenditure goods. If the package costs £2,000 or more (incl. VAT) then input tax can be claimed"

Yep, read that, and logically that is also my conclusion. However apparently some of the detail behind that summary is less straightforward and there's all kinds of contradictory nonsense on various forums and such.

Not that I would ever suggest our tax and excise legislation is complicated, illogical and frequently contradictory, you understand. :P
