Woppum
Time for an update and an "expert opinion" Wopps. Why is your 599 GTO so awesome that "you love this car" and show it in convoy with aNother GTO, a F40 and a 918? Is it better than the 458 Speciale? Can in fact the GTO be compared to the Speciale? Lastly, how do they compare (build, fun, performance, looks, etc) to the new 911 daily driven missile? So many questions Rachel, I don't blame you. Would be asking virtually identical ones. The fact is all the cars are very different to drive. The rawest of the lot is the GTO. It is absolutely savage. In fact the car is far closer tooth XX race car than the 599 GTB. Even when it's cold outside I have the air con on because the cabin gets so hot! The gearbox is the last and best single clutch box that Ferrari ever made. It is so fast and savage with real satisfying clunks in to gear no dual clutch will ever be able to do. It's amazing to think the car came out in 2011 and the gearbox used is light years ahead of that in the current aventador. Feel doesn't just end at the gearbox, for such a big and heavy car the steering has buckets of feel, it's also razed snap with zero slack. Once you have got use to the sheer size of the car you can chuck it around like you would an m3csl and turn CT off you can slide for Britain! But if you got an hour to rag this car around your favourite roads what you will remember most is the noise. Nothing, and I really do mean nothing... Sound as angry or as loud as the GTO. It is utterly ridiculous. It should not be legal... You should get an asbo for just turning the engine on. It's mad and they will never ever ever make one like it again. I thought about selling it recently as its gone up in value quite a lot since I bought it last October but after a few offers I decided I just couldn't go through with it. On the rare occasion I take it out of its covers I just look at it and just think it's the coolest car out my little lot by a country mile.... The speciale is a car that you really need to recalibrate your senses to drive. After spending time in the other cars jumping in a speciale is boarder line dangerous. The reason for this is the lock on the so much shorter than any other car. The slightest movement offers a very aggressive turn in. Many people find this very nervous personally I find this serious character! It darts around like nothing else. On track it just brilliant so alive and the short rack makes drifting easy. I use CT off on track. That basically means traction off but stability on. It's like a hand of God looking after you while your sideways at 80mph. No other car can do this. Ferrari know how to offer their customers a good time... Will be interesting to see how the RS compares but from my brief test drive it feels very sure footed with loads of traction, German and grown up by comparison. If this F12 thing is a big 780bjp spaz I absolutely need one in my life ! The turbo s is the best daily known to man. It's very comfortable, quiet has heated and air con seats, a panoramic roof, a bergmiestsr stereo and 4 seats. It is my mile muncher and something fun, not too flash and complimentary to my other madder cars... But it's also great on a wet track, at spa in the wet second gear corners I was zapping past cup cars... And the car is not sterile like the old turbos the 991S is a lot of fun. It is not a raw bone shaker like the other two but just as capable of demolishing a road or track as the speciale. 918 is the car of the moment. The underdog out the three that somehow manages to out accelerate and demolish a track faster than the other two. It also has the most technology, the most incredible quality (just open the boot to see how the carbon is put together) and a roof which comes off! The turbo s does 0-60 in 2.5 second, it's very ****ing fast! The 918 has been timed at 2.2. With its clever traction control system I hear it sees off bugatti Verons. Like the GTO it's a very cool looking thing. Don't ever drive it through London, I stopped traffic on both sides of the road Sat because 50+ papps filled the road taking pictures of me from every angle. One of the most embarrassing moments in my life, thank god I didn't have the roof off ! It's one flaw is at normal speed it feels and sounds, well very normal. In the spaz or GTO you can be going 5mph and having loads of fun. This thing comes alive when's our vision starts to blur. Still it's a piece of history this thing. What a privilege. In a couple of weeks I am taking it with the speciale to silverstone. Now that will be interesting. Well I help that she'd a little light. As you can see my passion for cars has just got worse over the years. I drive them any free time I have. Attached some pics but best ones on my IG I think : https://instagram.com/woppum/
