patently
As the title says, really. Thinking of getting one or the other for working on the move. At the 256GB/8MB/i5 level both are so close in price that it makes no difference. So which would TSN suggest? The MacBook Air is something I'm quite familiar with. The Surface Pro is a bit of an unknown. My worry is that a lot of the time, the device will be used on buses, trains etc - so will literally be used as a lap top device. Given that the keyboard looks quite slim and most of the weight seems to be in the display, I wonder if it will be stable in that configuration? If anyone has used one* then I'd love to hear feedback. *Hi Mac
Mac
I have all of them. === My worry is that a lot of the time, the device will be used on buses, trains etc - so will literally be used as a lap top device. === Utter PITA on the SP3. Got ridiculed the other day when someone noticed I was using my MBP as a try to use my Surface Pro on. What's that about. There is nothing you can't do on the Air that you can do on the 3 bar touch the screen....on an OS that is compromised for touch screen. No brains required - AIR. Now, the only caveat to this is your timeline for purchase. The last refresh was April 2014, and it averages about a 10 month refresh cycle? On the other hand Broadwell chips aren't due out till next year, so even if there is a spec bump it won't be a major one. Downside? Well, the screen on the 13" isn't retina. When I used my 'Air as a travel buddy I couldn't care less - but now I'm using my Retina MBP going back to the Air is very noticeable. Still - Air.

Mac
Actually - thinking about it - I'd buy neither...and get a 13" Retina Pro.

Mac
Well there seems to be this weird idea that a platform refresh instantly makes the previous one obsolete - isn't true of course. The current 13" Air is a brilliant machine

Andrew
I'll be getting the wife an Air for xmas. Patently, the top spec is £870 at the airport if that is of interest.
drpellypo
Macbook, without a shadow of doubt. The SP is clunky and cluttered to use. The MB is the total opposite. Don't worry about retina. I have every iDevice apple make, some with retina, some without, and the non retina ones never make me feel like I desperately want them to be retina. Andy_Bangle
In the US Microsoft's Black Friday deals include $150 off the Surface Pro 3, not sure if this happen in the UK MS store.

patently
Yes, I'm looking at that, too!
Andrew
That looks like a good deal. The £870 price is Dixons at LHR. Don't think our place offers vouchers. Although we have just rolled out a PC buying scheme where I can get a whacking 2% off the RRP of an Air (NI saving).
