New TV time

See this is one of my worries. One of my clients has just got a massive 50 inch plus set and it looks really really horrible. I can't watch it for more than 5 minutes. Perhaps it's partly to do with all the features being turned on - I dunno, but the motion and the image are crystal clear, yes, but look weird.

The new LED pictures do look tooo good.  The pictures even look 'artifical'.

Was watching a Samsung series 5 with a Pirate's of the Caribbean film on.  Looked wrong and too studio like.  Whereas plasmas present a much 'warmer' picture

Have a play and change the picture settings, don't forget in shops they use special DVD's to "show-off" and enhance the features of the TV ........ same as sound bars, what might sound good to one person doesn't sound the same to the next, so just adjust the settings to suit you   :P

I can't relate to any of that!  We have everything from 26" up to 55" and I don't see the 'weird' bit at all.  It's a telly.  End of.  :roflmao:

I wish they all did but many have TVs set up terribly. I guess they have to put up with punters playing around with them too.

Most shops simply use animated films to show off picture quality, as they look the best, they'll often be in 'Demo' mode too, meaning the contrast and brightness are whacked right up to compensate for shop lighting, and you can't fully play with the settings either.

We used to have a Sony Centre in Eastbourne, and they ran all their TV's off a PC with a quite ridiculous resolution that the Tv's at the time couldn't even fully display, it was probably in excess of 4k and not even Sky was delivering HD at the time, hence the TV's looked amazing until you got them home.

I always turn off all picture processing gimmicks, I know I have a good raw signal from either Sky/BT/Freeview/Sat etc so I can then tune the picture properly myself, always looks way better than having any of the crap turned on.

Then you're one of the lucky ones that doesn't notice. I can see the honeycomb effect on the digitiser on some iPads and I can tell if a film has been done 24p. I'm very sensitive to subtlety where image is concerned, which is why ive always favoured the high end panny plasmas, bexause they are incredibly natural looking.

This isn't mine, nor in a shop, it's at a mates' place.

Not sure if he had done anything other than take it out the box and turn it on.

So maybe you're right on that score.  Dunno.

We have a Smart TV Samsung in the bedroom and I'm really impressed by it use it all the time can't wait to get the same on the main TV.

Just waiting to see what happens with prices after we have done the room up. Going for a 55" I think but not sure if I'm going to future proof it or not yet and go 4k.

Next TV will definitely be 'smart' but at the moment I think the current solution is actually better if i'm honest, from a usability point of view.

The BT TV box does all the smart stuff, all on demand channels, Netflix etc etc, and all from the same remote, the one remote we use.

The TV remote has been in a drawer somewhere gathering dust forever, we don't use it, just the BT remote, so if the TV had smart features it would mean two remotes out cluttering up the room or getting lost by the kids.

My 42" Panasonic has an ethernet input.

The router sits right next to the TV.  I haven't even bothered plugging a cable in.

If you've read any of the privacy/technology articles in the last few months about Samsung and LG "smart TVs", you'd leave it unplugged...

Apparently they upload - in the clear - a massive amount of information about you (they act as network sniffers) and your home network, and the media content residing on it. The avaerage Joe Public buyer is completely unware of what information is being sent back to Korea and other parts of Asia.
