patently
Anyway, this is just getting daft now, I've made my point and if it continues it'll just degenerate even more than it already has by some members, so other than to discuss what people think of the watch in general, and their experiences of ownership, I'll not be saying any more. Can give it but can't take it
Mac
Halo approach is used across branding. Do you think BMW make more margin on the M3 or the 320D as a product line? Also, F1. I suspect everyone involved is likely to make more money from the sale of countless hundreds of thousands, probably millions, of the 'cheap' Apple watch than they ever will from the 13k ones.

bazza_g
The high end Apple watches might not be such a crazy purchase - depending on how restricted the limited numbers are... Am not intending to get one so far, the lack of waterproofing has killed it for me - with all the health and fitness apps not being able to submerge it or swim with is seems a bit daft.. Scotty
They can hardly be a long term investment as they'll be obsolete in a handful of years.

Ditto, I was hoping that it would be fully waterproof go anywhere and with virtually any excise (ok not diving). But not being waterproof and having to take it off when I swim or go in the show is a miss, fingers crossed V2 has this covered. Yes I know I and other could get the special coating but that misses the point for me. Most high end watches with a steal bracelet can be worn in pretty much any conditions, I think this should able to as well to be honest.

DaveP
I spent £700 on wheels and tyres yesterday. For my mountain bike. Oh, what ones? All my bikes are 26" wheels, there is no way I will buy a good set of wheels that aren't 27.5" or 29". The chinese carbon wheels are supposed to be very good. drpellypo
The apple watch is an awesome bit of kit. Apple have done what they always do - and indeed spend millions doing - they've taken an existing product and made it brilliant. I was adamant I wasn't going to buy a first gen one, but I'm not sure how long I can keep up that determination now, because the more I see the reviews, the more I'm being convinced that the QC has been done to SJ levels before it has been released. With regards to the edition, I genuinely don't understand why people think it is stupid buying one, if one has the means? I go to the airport and watch all the people who've paid for speedy boarding get on the plane first, while I sit in a more comfortable seat with more leg room for ten minutes, and then I get on the plane, and we all leave at the same time. I never understood why people paid extra for that. Perhaps it's to make them feel more important, perhaps it's to give them a feeling of exclusivity, perhaps they have other reasons, but I certainly don't judge them for what they've chosen to spend their money on. The edition watch is exclusive - only available to those with a few quid in their pockets. That's what the appeal is. There's something satisfying about buying something that you know other people want to buy but can't. Buying the edition watch is no different to getting a first class ticket, no different to staying in the most expensive room in a hotel, no different to paying for corporate hospitality at a football game. All these things ultimately offer you the same product as the cheap version (still get there at the same time, still get a nights sleep, still get to see the match) except, in the aforementioned examples, the experience is different, partly because you've paid more for it, and that in itself can bring satisfaction beyond the basic functionality of something. Those that are saying it does the same thing and looks the same, obviously don't grasp this. Edited April 20, 2015 by drpellypo

Calm Chris
DP My take on the Apple watch product is simples. It's a Gen 1, in 5 years Apple will have a Gen 4 or 5 watch and the tech will not be up to a useful standard. I agree you pays your money, you make your choice, but Apple have a absolute history of improvement and advance and let's not fool ourselves they will improve the i watch to a point that will make gen 1 either a novelty wear or have more value as a antique than as a function watch in but a half decade. I can totally understand some paying sub £500 in the absolute knowledge that in the mid term it will need replacing with a newer model (thus accepting the original cost will be a write off after a period). However it isn't an investment, spend £7k on a Deepsea Rolex and in 10 years it will be worth £10k. Spend £7k on a upper level iwatch and it will be worth sfa in 10 years other than as a modest retro piece with near zero functionality.
drpellypo
I bought a really expensive meal for MrsP and me last month. I poo'd it out a few days later. Not everything that's expensive has to be an investment is my point. And saying next gen will be better is a totally null and void argument where tech is concerned, in my humble opinion, because technology never stops. It will always be the case that the next one will be better, and the next, and the next. If that worried me, I'd never buy tech.

Calm Chris
When you get one after a week or two it should be saying well done. Isn't the storage of health data one of the key features? Anyway back to the debate. Problem is that the iwatch has no functional difference (size aside) between the base £400 off to the £13k item, which I guess with be Theo'd, DG, Versace (et all) to even high cost levels. Would you spend nearly x 30 the value for a mega bling v simple unit? With a watch I could accept that concept, I can't with tech that will (like all Apple products) eventually have to be retired. Andrew
I think if you spend £13k on one of these you are a bell end, but then keeping an M3 in the garage and driving it 700 miles a year is bell end behaviour too. We are all susceptible to a bit of bellendus maximus. Each to their own!
Luke
With the iwatch, I wonder if you will be banned from telling the time while you're driving.
NewNiceMrMe
Biggest problem with any device like this will be people trying to read texts whilst driving. But it is no different to phones now. Plus, with the Watch, they won't need to. The taptic engine sends a signal to the wrist of the wearer to indicate the type of notification they have (i.e. text, email etc.) You can then 'wake' Siri without touching the watch and say "Read message" - and it does. The technology is there to allow you to not have to take your hands off the wheel when driving. The reality though is that it already exists on iPhones now, but the difference is that an iPhone must be plugged into power to wake Siri by voice command, whereas on the Watch it doesn't need to be.
