varcolac1987
HELLO GUY'S I AM JUST ABOUT TO BUY A JAGUAR XF 2.7 DIESEL FROM 2008 AND I WILL LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE HAD ONE LIKE THIS AND WHAT ISSUES SHOULD I LOOK FOR? I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR IT IS SUPERB NOTHING WRONG WITH IT BUT I HAVE READ MANY BAD REVIEWS AND I WILL LIKE TO FIND OUT IF THERE ARE ANY HIDDEN ISSUES? THANK YOU
E-bmw
I am not an expert or owner, but from what I have heard make sure the handbrake comes off properly, and find out when the shoes were last changed (they can wear out in just a handful of thousands of miles) check all electrics and check them again, only consider cars with full history, and finally the 3.0 is the better engine by far, especially in S spec. Tipex
I should think you'll get far more sensible advice on a Jag forum. If you're happy with the car, buy it!
NewNiceMrMe
Sensible advice? He has already said he's heard of lots of issues with the car - so I recommended a car that is lauded by all the motoring press, and you don't think that is sensible advice? If you go to a dedicated manufacturer forum you'll not get impartial advice. It is my opinion he'd be much wiser to choose an Audi A6 3.0 TDi or a 530d. He's said he's going to buy one, so to be honest I don't really see why he's even asking the question to begin with! Surely you do your research before you're going to buy a particular car, and not when you're "just about to buy...."? Tipex
You might not get impartial advice on a Jag site, but you'll be told what to look out for, which is what he's asking. The point is, as you say, he's already said he's buying it, so advising him to buy something else is just as pointless as him asking what to look out for. NewNiceMrMe
I don't see it as pointless. It might help him avoid a buying mistake. If it spurs a thought, it could be worthwhile. It doesn't mean he should buy a 530d or an A6, but what if he's not considered them and then thinks it might be wise to look?
Tipex
I suspect we're wasting our time discussing it anyway to be honest, I may be wrong, but I can't see him becoming a regular member if he even does check back to read the replies!
garcon magnifique
Struggling to understand how suggesting an A6 instead of an XF could ever be good advice, unless you had some kind of pathalogical hatred of Jaguar. The best advice has already been mentioned: if you can afford an early 3.0 diesel XF go for that instead. The 2.7 was a lovely, smooth engine but by God it was thirsty. garcon magnifique
Best honest advice is to get an independent Jag specialist to inspect it for you. Worth a couple of hundred quid for piece of mind even if you end up walking away. I don't know of any specific common issues - best place to find out about those would be a Jag specific website. The FAQ and help sections often have better info than the forum threads. Unfortunately it's always the risk - the cost to buy these nice cars comes down but the cost to repair them doesn't, and there will always be a chance you will hit unlucky - as you found with the A8.
E-bmw
Rather than buy the 2.7, you would be better to try a 3.0 first & if you can't budget for it, at least you will know the difference & whether you see it as worth the wait until they are in budget.
