What spec would you go for now?

In August BMW introduced a couple of new desirable/trendy options which I think will make the car more desirable on the used market. I don't have them and doubt I'd have paid for them anyhow.

  • CarPlay
  • Wireless charging

Part of me wishes I had gone for Connected Apps but then again I'd never use them as I stream from my iPhone and this car is for driving, not a mobile office. I can always add them later for £300.

I didn't go for the HK as i'm upgrading speakers myself, for half the price. Standard Hi-Fi is pretty tinny and HK in the 2-er isn't that great although there's talk it's been improved for MY17.

Think I could have skipped electric seats as they're a bit basic and dropped the Adaptive headlamps as I won't be driving this car in the dark very often.

The M2 drives (and sounds) really well, 80% of my driving is B-roads and the other 20% fast A-roads. It sticks to road and does all the things an M-car should +++

I use the office app functions via Connected Drive a lot.  CarPlay is interesting as is Wireless Charging, I can see how you might have wanted them if they'd been available.

I still don't think the HK upgrade is worth it and I, like you, would go for an independent after-market fit if that was my thing.

We had Adaptive Headlights in the X6 and they're the one thing MrsMe really misses!  She thought they were a superb addition for night driving, whereas I thought they were crap.

I've had adaptive headlamps on every car since the M5, that car had everything - miss the HUD most of all, and don't think they're worth the money 98% of the time. However, every now and then they make a difference, bearing in mind my driving conditions are very different from most of England - we're now entering 4 months of darkness (no street lights), minusfeckingfreezingcold, combined with suicidal moose & deer on the roads.

It's going to be interesting to see how LED headlamps perform in the cold & snow. They don't generate as much heat as xenons and consequently may not keep the snow from building up on the glass.

Thanks for the responses.

The dealer had a Long Beach Blue in and went to see it today. As NNMM said before its very turquoise.....but I liked it and will prob go for it.

Test driving a DCT? M4 this weekend but prob stick with manual.

I am really not to bothered about any tech. I don't even use the phone in my cars at present.

Same goes for hi-fI. I normally stick to BBC R6 as background in the car.

Was considering electric seats. But will give them a miss now thanks Andy. Just electric lumbar.

Got adaptive lights on current S3. Not sure about those as an option.

Going to have a proper look at options this weekend.

I specced wireless charging/hotspot on mine but so far is a bit of a gimmick for me. Should've done my research properly as the iPhone 6+ I use won't even fit in the slot. I also need to buy another add on @ over £100 from BMW to make it useable with an iPhone.

In the time it takes to put the phone in the add on, then the slot and place it, I might as well use the USB slot beside it. Same result. I guess it'll make selling it more desirable and a lot easier  but I won't for the sake of it change to a phone that charges wirelessly

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I cannot bring myself to buy a BMW without the HK system.  It's just miles apart from the standard system. Yes you can get an install done for less but I wouldn't want to bastardise a newly purchased car.

I haven't tried CarPlay yet so can't make a judgement call on that, though the app integration is awesome.

I am the only one who drives my car so electric seats would just be a waste, the seat position rarely ever changes  so would be wasted. The lumbar support I value more is electric. That's good enough for me:P

As for the office apps. I haven't tried it yet but will set it up for use in the next few weeks to see if it's something that will be of a benefit to me.

You won't be able to hear much coming out of the speakers unless you're on extremely smooth roads, on my daily drive it's reminiscent of a group N rally car inside.

Over 30kg of sound proofing has been removed from the M2.

I'd say it more teal in colour.

Make sure you test drive the car in 'Sports' mode - the popping and overrun is quite addictive.

I wasn't going to bother with the electric seats after what Andy said.

But it takes me ages to get my driving position just right. And then any time the Mrs takes my car, or it gets valeted etc, I can't get it the same....and get back ache. And we will be swapping cars more once M2 lands.

So Hopefully money well spent.

It would actually be quite an easy car to buy off the shelf, as the extras are very limited......which I love.

I really can't be bothered messing about choosing inlays and bits of chrome and all that 5hite.

BMW M2 CS due 2018 with the M3/M4 S55 motor detuned to 400bhp / 500 Nm of torque  :finger:

@SB: Get on the waiting list now :)

I know it was tongue in cheek.....but its an interesting point.

I was thinking about this when giving the S3 some last weekend.

I honestly do not need any more power/speed than the S3 has tbh. I reckon the M2 may be 'max power' for me. Next car probably less powerful and/or more refined.

In a nutshell. .......getting old.
