Riz
I've gone for the standard R cloth interior as VW leather is poor quality and over priced. Plenty of reports of it sagging too after little use. If the cloth interior annoys me I am going to go aftermarket but having driving a R with standard interior I can live with it for now. Riz
I originally bought a pre-specced Golf R with the £2,615 Carbon Leather option then I came to my senses! Aftermarket job...
Tipex
What does the standard cloth interior look like? I've just quickly googled it but can't find a picture of anything but leather.
garcon magnifique
Must admit it doesn't overly concern me that leather is genuine as long as it wears well. Best seats I've had were the alcantara trimmed recaros in a couple of Subarus. Quite partial to a bit of fake suede.

NewNiceMrMe
Allow me to entertain my new 7 series obsession for a moment. Lovely as the exterior is (and I think it suits white), go forward to 2 minutes and let the interior sink in.I think this is what you call leather.... Riz
I quite like the look of the standard R trim, but never sat in one.No issues with comfort, I love the GTI seats having covered nearly 30k miles in them and not once have I missed not having leather or bucket seats.I just felt that the Golf R leather seat options are over-priced. NewNiceMrMe
Let's be honest, leather is very model specific. A GTi or an R will get away without leather and have little impact on residuals. Try doing that in a high end 3 series or A4 and it's a very different case. The buyers expect/want leather. I would probably want it in an R but I can see why Riz would be reluctant when you see the quality. The after market option would probably make it a more attractive used car too because he could make it stand out from the usual 'leatherette' Golf R and choose something genuinely tasteful and sporty at the same time.
cruiser647
And then put it back to standard come resale time.

eldavo69
I mean when did you last see a tartan rug adorning the rear parcel shelf of a car? If I had to guess then I might get in trouble from somebody
Arch
I mean when did you last see a tartan rug adorning the rear parcel shelf of a car? Tin of travel sweets in the front, box of tissues in the back? Kind of makes you wonder who they might want to pick up, and why...
garcon magnifique
The last car I saw adorned with tartan rug, travel sweets and box of tissues was a Honda. Just sayin'.

NewNiceMrMe
Ahem. Okay, I'll take the bait. For those that don't know, we have a Volvo. For the summer months anyway. A C70 D5 SE Lux with 21k on the clock and in utterly pristine one-owner condition. MrsMe's 'temporary' new car after a debacle with Range Rover and waiting for a replacement 'new' car (that won't be a Range Rover and is looking likely to be a new Cayenne instead). NewNiceMrMe
Not much of a problem. Just a brand new Range Rover Vogue arriving after 5 months wait and found to be missing the small matter of £4k of executive rear seats and 2 other smaller options....
