I sat looking at a Golf R today, I really liked the previous one, but sitting looking at this one, with it's 4 exhausts and not very nice wheels, I was really underwhelmed.

I don't think the colour helped, red really doesn't suit it, but it just looked bland and cheap.

I took a picture if anyone's interested?

The picture actually flatters the car, it really doesn't suit red, the rear light clusters look weird in the flesh too, they seem much darker and clash with the red paint.

There is a blue one locally too, that looks much better.

I like the blue R and I like that red R too.

However, the wheels are a bit.......................  especially with all that rubber visible.

I am sure it will be (and will be) possible to go stupid on the options with super blingy wheels, mirrors, super polished Chrome tips, blingy dust caps, sparkly under door handle LEDs etc etc - and that's before you get inside.

I like the blue and the red think they look good. Not a fan of black / silver / white if I'm honest.

I don't think the wing mirrors suit the gold, but then didn't the Leon have Black ones for a while?

Yes, Leon Cupra had gloss nlack mirrors.

Golf R has silver mirrors as standard but gloss black is available as a £70 option.

What surprised me with Lapiz Blue is that it is classed as a "signature" colour so costs a few hundred quid more than normal metallic / pearl colours. That certainly wasn't the case with Deep Blue Pearl on the R32. VW are just taking the p!ss

Aren't most Golf R models on lease deals? So options are limited are not worth having. The lease deals are generally pretty good, I believe.

There were several ludicrous lease/contract hire deals around last year - around £240 a month for 3+24 and 8,000 miles a year.  They're long gone now, unless you want an R estate for around £200 a month - someone posted a link last week about it, but, as Booster said, you've got to watch the Ts & Cs and very restrictive mileage.  As soon as you go to real-world mileage, the prices goes up - a lot.

Just a thought;

Is this going to affect residuals for this particular model when these cars come back in to the marketplace, basically "En masse"?

I think it already has affected the GFV on the Volkswagen PCP deals etc

The Golf R last I heard was selling more than the GTI due to the silly lease deals that were offered.

There is now about a 6 month waiting list for a Golf R, crazy.

No because at 2 years and with 5k miles per year they will drop straight in to the VW closed auctions (dealer only) sales.

The dealers margins will be better than new sale margin.

I think its too early to tell but I suspect the Golf GTI 40th Edition may come with the buckets with a dash of tartan on the side bolsters... hey nothing wrong with tartan... its traditional GTI interior :)
