I'm looking at an R, MK3 TT, S3, Leon Cupra 290, M135i & M235i.

I think I'd be happy with any of those - bar one.

For the life of me I cannot see how the TT is in that company of cars.  I know there'll be people who say sporty, handling, looks etc - and it is in the looks stakes that I just cannot see any attraction whatsoever.  I think it is one of the blandest, boring, most unevolved and anonymous designs I have ever seen.

Buy an S3, or the Cupra 290 (but not the horrid lairy coloured versions!), the M135/235i, even the "why would I buy a Golf R when the M135/235 is so much better value for money" = but plllllllleeeeeaaaaaasssseeeee don't join the world of blandness by buying a TT. +++

Golf R all the way ;) (kidding) although if you want a higher quality interior at the expense of having slightly less feedback then the Audi S3. The S3 saloon looks nice with 19" alloys.

Audi are bringing out a RS3 Saloon which I wouldn't have minded but it's a cool £10k approx more than the R.

If you want ultimate driver involvement then got to get the BMW.

I would miss the TT out completely.

Even Dick Turpin would be embarrassed by what VW charges for leather / leatherette. To make matters worse the cloth seats on the R are horrible.

Totally naff stuff that standard R seat covering, reminds me of those Polyester glow in the dark sheets that you used to get in any B&B the length and breath of the country back in the day

I guess they made it look so bad so that it encourages the spending of vast sums of money being spent on correcting it with some real cow skin

What is VW leather made from?

How the feck do they justify the price? Why doesnt a car like an R come with Leather as standard like the S3 does,

I get the GTI scotty dog thing even though I think it looks out of place these days, I mean when did you last see a tartan rug adorning the rear parcel shelf of a car?

Don't Toyota do the same?  Pretty sure they do.

The only 'real' leather from their brand comes in Lexus cars?

Ford definitely do it - because I've just specced a car online to see and they actually tell you that the leather isn't, umm, leather. :roflmao:

Yes a couple of our Prius have 'leather' and it's definitely never been anywhere near a cow.

Very shiny, slippery and plastic feeling, not nice.

As you say, the Lexus (lexi?) we have on the other hand have much nicer leather, and they are only the is200d/hybrid version (forget exactly what the model is called these days).

Not sure about Ford, my Galaxy definitely has real leather, perhaps they've dropped it on new models? What about the Vignale? That surely must have real leather? If not, then :roflmao:

Interesting.  Apparently it is 'leather faced'.  So the base and back area are covered in a material that them has a very thin leather applied.  The sides, headrests, behind lower leg etc, are all vinyl.

The full leather seems to come on Titanium X models across the Ford range.

Mind you, Mercedes have hacked a lot of people off in the past by pulling the leather-faced and faux-leather trick.
