It just got serious

It's funny at one point porsche couldnt sell these, they were struggling for i believe about a year. Then about September last year the order book went crazy and every allocation was taken up. Today apparently there are 400 people in the world still on the waiting list with marginal cars left to be delivered, all of course accounted for. I think people didn't really know how good it was going to be until proper reviews started to happen. I realised about feb I made a mistake (was a lot of dosh for me to get my head around last year, if you remember my CSL thread from circa 2006 you will understand ;) ) I then spoke to Porshe guildford and they said no more cars left and they wouldn't even recormend me to put the deposit down as just that centre had 10 people on the list already... Been scoring the world for one for weeks then last Thursday a chap off another forum offered me the car at 'x' however I would have to commit straight away. I did and the rest is history. :)

Where do you go from here? I've always felt that for car enthusiasts to a certain extent we're all trying to climb a ladder as finances allow for something shinier, faster, more exotic. But that's it, you're at the top of the tree, nowhere else to go, I'm not trying to put a dampener on it, I bet the car is fricking amazing. But what do you lust after, after a 918.....

If I was building a garage of cars I know which way I'd be going : sideways and I don't mean drifting!

I'd be varying the type of car e.g. maybe have a comfy torquey Merc/Audi RS/etc for easy mile munching, a focused track car, a top line hypercar,  etc.

Just as well we all do things differently or it'd be fecking boring

Well for a start I am very excited about when my gt3 RS arrives in oct/nov. The 918 May have the kudos of the ultimate within my little family however it's too expensive to take on track a lot which is arguably where you have the most fun. The Speciale is bucket loads of fun on track but it does not have harnesses so really I should limit my exposure to tacking in it. The RS has a half cage and buckets it will be safer, possibly the ultimate modern track tool... However the Speciale is so much fun I'm going to need to do a back to back when it arrives. The 918 really is all about the roof off, that is its biggest trick in my view, something none of the other cars can do. Turbo is my mile muncher and wet weather road and track warrior... The GTO is just so cool, but it's very noisy and rudimentary. They are going to announce in September an F12 Speciale type car which I'm very excited about, I think my chances are slim they will let me have one but I'd love one if they do, plus when the gt RS arrives it would be silly not to get one... Lots of fun and if you buy right a good investment.

I think it's time to look back, not forward, compliment the cars with a few modern classics.

Mint Cossie, 205GTi, Quattro, that kind of stuff, maybe a Testatossa or a Countach, definitely one of those resto-mod Interceptors and a Growler.

What about a Bowler for wet weather and off roading?

As above, it's a good job we're all different, because that's what my garage would look like!

Classics can be beautiful but they are expensive, need A lot of looking after, are slow and can often leave you on the side of the road. I like reliable cars that are fast as fook, full of feel, make a wild noise from the engine and exhaust plus look like they mean business. I'm a polarised car geek really...

Suspect that would have been the cheaper alternative too! Assume all these are well over list price?

If you can find one unfortunately so. I took a view on it, prices are going up every time a new car comes on sale, money is cheap and cars are very attractive at the moment. This is arguably the best car on sale.

I like Woppum.

He's the only former R32 owner I can say that about. :roflmao:

Seriously though, that isn't a car.  It is the world of master engineering on wheels and a big badge that, roughly translated, says "F*ck off".  I like it, a lot. :roflmao:

Haha, well i wouldn't say she is a sleeper but it's not shouty like a Lambo. Most people notice you in the car, many would know what it is, but it does it in a very classy way. :)

Indeed.  A modern Lambo is just an Audi with an bodykit driven by even bigger pricks anyway. :roflmao:

The new SV just did under 7 mins at the ring. Rumour has it it was carrying about 50-100bhp more, whatever that's bloody impressive no unexpected for such a beast. Whether it's an engaging drive is another matter however. Personally can't get over the image of Lambos, just way too brash...
