muckel
A few weeks ago after an oil change, low level oil light came on, plenty of oil there, then the brake light warning and beep came on, everything working. But now when the side lights and headlamps are put on the ABS and ESP lights up!!!??? Anybody got any ideas?? Its driving me mad!!!! Also anyone got a pic of the relays and board in the passenger footwell?
cruiser647
Can you check if you have water in the front footwells? Manly the passenger footwell? Once water is in there, it can make a mess of the electrics. If there is, it'll need drying out something chronic. The water might have come from the blocked water drains. muckel
And now its showing low brake fluid......! Its not low at all. A few years ago, the ABS and ESP somehow 'failed' but displayed a red warning message. I found someone with VAG COM and he eventually managed to reset the codes after 3 hours. I had to tell him to drive it in a straight line for 100 metres and then turn the steering lock to lock before it finally corrected itself. At that time I had a look in the CPU unit box. Steel screws in brass locknuts!!! Vorsprung???? NO water in there thank heavens but I took the opportunity to put stainless crews in and sealed it but last year the AC drains filled the floorwells. The Satnav failed then so thats why I asked about pics of the electrical board in the passenger floorwell and its been dry ever since. I've a feeling its a faulty earth/connector problem so the question is where do I look and where are all the earth points on a 1999 D2 4.2? There are loads of them everywhere. Doesn't help that my PC Laptop with VAGCOM has failed and I've bought a Mac which doesn't support VAGCOM!! It never rains.......
cruiser647
Yeah, the water had probably started the corroding process. Probably a process of elimination on the earthing cables. You'll find many by the battery and follow the earth cable from there to the body work. Same with the fuse and relay boxes. You'll also have some from the lights and engine. I think you'll need lots of WD40!
muckel
I forgot to mention that when I bought my A8 that the front cigar lighter, the sun visor light and the side light nearside (rhd) didnt work. Jeez I've had her 8 years! There is no one in Cardiff UK that has a clue about A8s. Again I ask, where are the earth points on an A8? I had the AC problem with the drains blocked up and the satnav died but when I looked at the relays in the passenger footwell all looked ok. I'm getting really pissed off when I brake and getting the beep (and the sidelights come on). Ive a strong suspicion the fault is somewhere in the bulkhead drain but Ive unblocked it and water runs through but when it rains..... Every Audi I've ever had from the 5turbo has had an intermittent fault like this and its driving me mad! Also every audi Ive ever had leaks water into the rear lights. Vorsprung Duh! Ive had her for 8 years and I'm not getting rid of her. No f****** way! Help! Not me. The car...
cruiser647
Sorry, not a clue where the earth cables are. Probably quite a few of them. Have a check around the battery area first. With regard to leaky lights - nope, not an issue any of my Audis have suffered with (and I'm on my 8th Audi!)
