A8 D2 Folding mirror problem

Hi Everybody,

The electric folding mirrors on my A8 D2 will not fold outwards. The last time that I retracted the mirrors everything was working ok. So today I unlocked the car started it up, then turned the mirror switch so the mirrors would turn outwards... And nothing happened!!!!! There is power to the mirrors, because if you push the mirrors out by hand the mirrors automatically will retract to the folding in position.. Is this problem likely to be a faulty mirror switch or a mirror control module / relay??

Any help would be appreciated....for me to solve this problem!!!!!

Not sure, I think a few people further back have had this issue, so maybe worth doing a search for it.

 

IIRC, the plastic cogs aren't the strongest nor longest lasting!

I've done a bit deeper investigation and the teeth on the cogs/gearing seem to be ok.. Do you think it is worth replacing the wing mirror door control switch?? Also, does anybody know where abouts the wing mirror control module is located? I found the large wing mirror relay which is situated behind the wooden panel on the nearside.

But, I have also been told there is a wing mirror control module situated somewhere in the rear of the car... Is this true? If so,would somebody be kind enough to let me know where abouts it is situated.. This is my first Audi A8 2002 D2 LWB 4.2 Quattro F/L model that I have ever owned, the previous owner neglected the car, as I'm now starting to find out. I only paid 1500 for it knowing that it needed some TLC, it's a beautiful car with FSH and 95,000 on the clock... But some of the little electrical problems are starting to give me a headache!!!!!! I really do appreciate any help with my problems with this wonderful beast!!!!
