Scotty
I've just done the new big Win10 update. I looked away and it kicked in. Just as well I didn't need the PC! It's rebooted about 3 times and has taken about twice as long as installing Win10 over Win8....in fact it's still on the "we'll be ready soon" page. Just posting this as a heads up for anyone considering it. Basically allow plenty of time!
Scotty
Apparently there's lots of 3rd party driver updates in this. That'll be why my laptop wouldn't connect to the wifi until I'd completely removed the related drivers and let it use old ones.
Tipex
Mine did that update the other day, probably took 20 mins/half hour. Can't see any difference other than I no longer have to reset the modem every time I want to connect to the WiFi, so it's an improvement. Touchpad still isn't fully functional though. Scotty
Strange! The Win10 install was super fast and this was slow. I'm wondering if the lack of a connection half way through slowed it. Try looking at what updates have been applied.
Waylander
Mac will prorbably correct me but as I am understand it Win 10 doesn't install updates as we are used to but essentially reinstalls the OS with the lastest version (something like that!) which is why it takes so long
Scotty
Maybe I'm getting mixed up. I was looking for changes and thought this was one. I've been swapping between various flavours of Windows lately of different devices so could be mistaken.

Does normal updates as per previous, but now and again platform releases are pushed out - these are far bigger.
Scotty
But now I can see nowhere where I can see the last applied updated or can choose to defer or accept them.
Paul
Win 7 to Win 10 didnt work brilliantly for me on my Dell XPS Laptop, the trackpad drivers failed to work or were not compatible, and I could only use it with a usb mouse. I was able to roll back ( you have a month) no issue, so will have to put a bit more effort into drivers first. Better than some that wont even boot after the update. I need a bigger SSD in my main PC, so will clone it, before trying the update on that machine.
Mac
But now I can see nowhere where I can see the last applied updated or can choose to defer or accept them. Go into updates and hit advanced options. You can defer updates in there, and configure insider preview if you want that. Also, make sure you check 'How updates are delivered'. Depending on your system setup you may be delivering updates for other people

I was very wary of this but both the netbook and macbook seemed fine for trackpad following install

Waylander
Aaahhh right you meant you didn't know where the updates section was Yeah that's now in settings Took me a while to find that too
Scotty
I had seen it before but due to working on Win7 a lot recently I got mixed up. Also in Control Panel > Security & Maintenance > Change Security & Maintenance you see Update is grey'ed out in Security Messages. That led me to search the Control Panel top to bottom! Waylander
My laughter was because I had done the same thing and resorted to uncle google to hunt out where the heck it was previously
Mac
There's general confusion about the different branches of Windows 10. I've put a brief description of the different branches here: Windows 10 Branches So for your query Scotty, by setting updates to deferred you're effectively putting yourself on the CBB leg of the deployment strategy.

Attempt 2 with all the lastest updates, and Dell drivers, and a couple of known working touchpad drivers and still no joy, Touchpad fails, if it works at all within minutes, and twice when coming back and waking up the screen with a usb mouse the screen graphics have scrambled beyone use. Rolled back to Win 7 where it will stay until I atleast see some revisions in the driver No's to make it worth trying again.
