OS 9

Anyone else having issues with OS 9 (9.0.2), particularly on an iPhone 6?

I've noticed a few foibles, not least the increased battery consumption, it's not dramatic, but noticeable.

I also keep finding random apps open in the background, I'm a bit anal about closing down apps, it bugs me if I double click and loads of apps are still running, but sometimes I double click and apps I've not used in ages are open, despite the fact I know I closed everything down, this morning settings and music were open in the background, and I know I didn't launch them.

Also keep getting odd icons on the lock screen and in the background apps screen, usually related to Ford Audio, but describing apps that aren't open, I'll post some screen shots later so you can see what I mean.

Maps constantly notifies me as to how long it's going to take to get to various places, really annoying as I'm not usually going to any of the places.

I'm running 9.0.2 now and haven't had any issues.  If anything, battery life is better.

I did have a couple of apps crash on me initially but 0.2 seems to have fixed that (and even prior to that it was maybe just 3 crashes).

I've never experienced the 'ghost app opening' type characteristic you describe and my first thoughts was if there is anyone else using your phone in the house?  The things you're describing sound very odd.  Almost as if there is an element of software corruption in an app?

I'm having a few problems but not the ones you're describing.

The biggest problem I'm having is that text messages are showing up on the lock screen as coming from a phone number (+44 .....) even though I've got the contact saved in the phone in the same format as the number is shown.  It wasn't doing it on iOS 8 but as soon as I went to iOS 9 it started doing it.  iMessages are coming through fine and text messages when they reach my iPad are fine.  It's annoying.  I've seen a few people complaining about this, some have had it since iOS 9, others have had it with previous versions.  I've tried all sorts but can't get it sorted.

Also I'm having problems with What's App notifications.  Often there is no sound or vibration so I miss a lot of notifications.  The screen still lights up and shows a notification on the lock screen.  I don't use What's App all that much but my other half was out in New York City for a couple of weeks and we were using What's App to stay in touch.

That is almost certainly the WhatsApp notification preferences being reset.  It has happened to a number of apps, that much I do know.

No issues for me a few tweaks with some of the new features but the batter life seems to have improved if anything.

I get weird problems with mail not getting updates from time to time that mean I have to kill it but that is happening less often with 9 than it did with 8.

You can see the icons I get here, bottom left corner of the lock screen, in this case it is Happy Wheels, but also happens with Youtube, the Happy Wheels app was not open or running at the time-

And here you can see the double click 'recent/running apps' screen, again bottom of the screen and as you can see, no apps are open or running-

Very odd, I seem to get on average around an hour less battery life since iOS 9 update.

Waylander, I would still update personally, any issues seem to be isolated to individual phones, there don't seem to be any that effect everyone, and they are more minor annoyances than issues.

Oh, I think I've sorted the Maps issue where it keeps telling me how long it's going to take to get to places, it seems every time I start my car and it connects to bluetooth, Maps thinks I'm going home, so it pops up a traffic info type notification.

Only as you can imagine, the phone seems confused as to where I live being as I spend most of my day driving around, I've simply turned notifications for Maps off, I never use it anyway, Google Maps is still vastly superior.

Why do you close down all of the apps, they aren't actually running. In some situations it uses MORE processing power / battery to re-start them if you close them all the time than leaving them open. They are in a paused state and can consume no or little power when in that state.

Don't get me wrong closing them down occasionally can be beneficial but all the time is possibly making things worse for you than better. +++

is Happy Wheels running on another Apple device? The icon in the bottom corner of the lock screen indicates Handoff is operating.

Not installed on any other devices, no other devices are linked to my account either.

Habit, tidiness, ocd, who knows? I don't really buy that theory though, some apps do continue to run in the background, that being said, I tend to leave the apps I use most (Safari, Facebook) open in the background most of the day, but when I get home I close everything and rarely open them up until back at work the next day, home time is for family not the Facebook/internet.

IOS 9  :ffs:

We have a heap load of 5s and 6 along with ipad airs and air 2.

Mobileiron (mdm stuff) doesn't like IOS9.  As we keep finding out.

It has created a big headache for us (for people who install the damn thing after we told them NOT to!!!!).

Says a lot that they have released updates so soon after the initial release of 9.

iOS9 barfed mail. v9.0.2 still has't fixed it.

If you use Apple's mail.app to access POP3/SMTP mail, it makes stored mail unusable/inaccessible. You can see the first few lines of the nessage in the preview on the LHS of the screen, but the message body is either "not found" or "message has not been downloaded from the server".

I'm becoming a lot more of an Android fan because of these sorts of bugs...

I'd agree if the notifications didn't work but it's intermittent.  I think probably 50% of the time it works properly.

In any case I've reset all the preferences, reinstalled the app and generally farted about a lot to do avail.

On the subject of apps open in the background, I too close them down regularly.

I consider it a form of OCD because I'm the same with browser tabs/windows on my Mac.  I cannot have more than 2-3 open.  It irks me.  Same with Finder windows, I can never have more than two open at once.  Same with desktop icons - I have 3.  If I end up with more, I get twitchy. :roflmao:

iOS 9 has time traveled my 6 Plus back to the days of woe. The delays/lag after you request something is unacceptable - from opening an app, opening a calendar day, double clicking home to switch between apps, weird stuttery glitches in the OS animations - I seem to be waiting for everything and its driving me up the wall.

The cynic in me is that this is deliberate and from my 'Apple profile' they can see that I'm quite likely to be coaxed into buying a S version if they introduce some minor annoyances through software update...

We have MobileIron on work devices (well most of them :secret:) and it's being dropped for Air-Watch now.

oops - we did the same and are on Airwatch.

I recall I was given a "bye" to put my phone on the network in the past (subsequently dropped by mutual consent) as there isnt a mobileiron or airwatch agent for Windows Phone

It's not called Windows for nothing!  :roflmao:   Could return you to DOS as you don't use the windows feature of Windows much!

I usually have 8 windows or more open most of the day.

Just to update this, I've solved the battery issue.

I deleted Happy Wheels and now my battery life is back to normal, now I can't be sure if it was the app itself causing battery drain issues, or I was simply using the phone more by actually playing Happy Wheels.....

I still get those odd icons, although they no longer relate to Happy Wheels, and they now say Facebook.

I still get apps open that I haven't used too, woke up yesterday morning knowing I'd closed all apps before going to sleep, and Facebook, Safari, Music and Settings were all open.
