garcon magnifique
Mac, I am of course immensely appreciative of your shared wisdom, but shouldn't you be on a beach or in a bar ogling young female convicts?
Mac
I have just spent four days sleeping in a van. I've now out of sheer rage and mosquito illness checked myself into the Penthouse of the Sebel in Manly It's the first time I've had decent internet for MONTHS. MONTHS.

Waylander
When upgrading (for example going from Office 2011 to 2016) will it automatically uninstall previous versions or do you have to do it manually and if so how? The absence of the program list makes me struggle with the uninstall bit (so far I've just thrown stuff at the trash can and it seems to have worked)
Arch
There's an app 'recycler' thing you can get so when you decide to get rid of something, it finds and bins all the relevant files. Not idea if it actually does what it says, it's on my old iMac downstairs and i cba to get up and go and look to see what its called.

When you do an upgrade (and I've done the Office365 upgrade to 2016 apps) it takes care of it all for you (i.e. removes old apps).
Mac
2011 and 2016 can and do co-exist. If you install 2016 and you want to remove 2011, just bin it.
Waylander
Thanks. Same with office 2013 then I see - unless you're using office 365 the standalone versions will coexist. In the Mac though I have drop drag each component to the bin? There's no way to uninstall it all in 1 go? Side question Mac. On the pics there anyway I can install 2016 but keep all my settings and especially the accounts etc from 2013? I assumed if I uninstalled 2013 first I'd lose all that? Currently installing win10 on parallels, then it's El Capitan time . Doubt I'll get round to office 2016 (Mac) today so have a little wiggle room to understand the above. Waylander
My god win 10 runs like a dog in parallels!! Using it as a testing environment before considering upgrading the desktop PC In contrast win7 in parallels was very slick
Mac
Then you're doing it wrong. Check the allocated resources and make sure you have parallels tools installed.
Waylander
I had to reinstall parallel tools. It installed okay and was fine initially but when I closed it and opened it again it took ages to boot in and then goes blank unless I turn confluence off (whatever that is). Did it as an in place upgrade of course. There is a problem now as nothing happens when I press the windows symbol on the desktop (so I wouldn't even be able to access updates for example) I have a timestamp pre upgrade so might try again but no idea what I've done wrong..... NewNiceMrMe
I'm still using Windows 7 in Parallels. However, that's because I have some astronomy software that requires it (in that field, releases and updates are appallingly slow - they only released the Windows 7 version in 2014). It isn't available in OSX at all. That irritates the life out of me.

NewNiceMrMe
Reiterating above - win7 in parallels is lightening quick I've used it twice this year. I just don't get on with Windows nowadays. Feels archaic. Even when I use Windows 8 on a PC I have for one specific purpose, I feel as if I'm having to go around by Alaska to get to Manchester.
Waylander
See the reverse to that is - with OSX it is nice and slick as it just "does" stuff but I haven't got a frigging clue what goes on under the hood so trying to trace an issue can be a PITA. Granted this is as much to do with familiarity. BUT let's not digress into the usuan banality on this thread :D
Riz
What issue , there shouldn't be any issues with OS X.... it must be user error
Tipex
Lol, sounds like an (well deserved) ingrained mistrust of Windows is clouding your judgement of whether OS X is doing what it looks like it is!

Not once. I wonder if it might be the user....
Waylander
issues with ichain, random lock-ups in Safari PITA removing Office rather than a one-click uninstall of the Suite To name but a few The one I am currently having is I agree possibly user-related as Mac suggested re Win10 parallels screw-up but even here I wouldn't have a clue where to start trouble-shooting from Tipex you are indeed correct the mistrust is because I am "used" to Windows errors which cloud my thinking on OSX and the experience is mostly very pleasant and more down to learning how a new OS does things

Riz
Give it time...... I used to love Windows XP Pro SP3... very stable but it still needed a re-install every year or so to re-gain the speed lost. I am awaiting news of the MacBook Pro 2016..... I have already bought a 1TB SSD for it and Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2016
garcon magnifique
Interestingly that KeyChain/Internet Accounts sync/verification issue seems to have magically gone away. Having my own well developed and ingrained mistrust of Windows it will take me a while to lose my expectation that the issue will equally magically return.
