Andy_Bangle
Think they've settled on an up to 55 place penalty, similar with Alonso, although If this keeps up he'll start from the pit lane..... in Silverstone.
Cuprabob
Yes, penalties are no longer carried over or incur drive through like last year hence why Merc are taking as many as they can at this race where there is some hope he can overtake
E-bmw
So, there are 22 drivers on the grid, he will therefore start 2.5 laps down, as the Mercs normally lap everyone down to about 5th, by my logic, if he does all but 10 laps on the hardest tyre & then does his final stint on the fastest tyre, he would probably still come about 6th. Daz
According to the BBC Quote At a minimum, Hamilton needed two new turbos and MGU-Hs. As that added up to 30 places Mercedes have chosen to give Hamilton three brand new complete engines for the remaining nine races because there was nothing to lose. Hamilton can only drop to the back no matter how many theoretical places he is penalised for changing engine parts.
billy2shots
It's a bit meaningless really. Either carry the grid penalty over multiple races so 21 or 23 place penalty in this one and the rest in the next race. Or my personal favourite, let him qualify and race as normal and then subtract the places from him. Giving him a 30,55 or 75 place penalty for one race is pointless as he can still get points from the race. Regs need changing imho
E-bmw
Surely, the spirit of the regulation would be: He now needs a new engine - X-place grid penalty. In 3 races he needs another new engine - X-place grid penalty In another 3 races he needs another engine - X-place grid penalty. Rather than 3 engines needed so still only = X-place grid penalty? garcon magnifique
Just another farcical element of the rules. Q1 vaguely interesting. Lewis did an obligatory lap to post his required (but not really) 107% of fastest lap. Alonso did, er, about 7% of a lap.
Soulboy
Excuse my ignorance. But is this penalty 100% genuine.....or just something to make the title a bit more interesting? I generally try not to buy into conspiracy theories......but F1 does seem to have a habit of 'things happening' at the right time to maintain interest. Or am I just full of 5hite conspiracy theorist? E-bmw
We all knew it was going to happen as LH has used up all his engines for the season due to early failures. So, yes, you are full of sh!t...........
garcon magnifique
I'm sure there are a few die hard tin foil hat conspiracists out there who know the rules but still genuinely believe the team would sabotage their own driver's season to hand the title to ze German. But no. This time it's the FIA and their superficial eco-friendly milk float rules that are full of shyte. Cuprabob
What will be more interesting is when when the stewards decide to give Hamilton his 3rd reprimand to force another 10 sec penalty. Some thought he might try and do something deliberate this weekend to get it added on. I still think it will be a good race as both Red Bulls are on different tyres at the start and the gap to Rosberg is much narrower than it's been force while. I get the feeling Mad Max is going to do a win it or bin it race.

However, I may not watch the race......as am considering driving up to a lake in Scotland called the Loch Ness Triangle. It 's where a UFO landed and the aliens got out and shot JFK from a grassy mound (very 1960s .....all brazilians nowadays) while faking landing on the moon (look at the shadows of the flag. And not even made of cheese!)

billy2shots
Only in F1 could someone have a 60 place penalty and still claim 15 points for the race. Hamilton must be laughing his head off and has a tip top car for the next couple of races.
garcon magnifique
Yep, the rules have transpired massively in his favour. And fair play to the team for maximising it. F1 has always been about trying to use the rules to gain an advantage. There must be tin foil covered heads popping all over the place.
Cuprabob
The race in the pits between Hulkenburg and Alonso was quite amusing and lucky not to end in tears. Looks as though the stewards were having a weekend off. Edited August 28, 2016 by Cuprabob

CarMad
Pretty good race today. Enjoyed Hulkenbergs interview about the Alonso incident. He just said it was close but fine he had no issue with it we want to see more of that not less no issue from me. So so so refreshing from the constant bloody moaning from many. Except I think Kimi who rightly was pissed at Verstappen who whilst races hard was a bit of a tool at that point personally. I can see someone else just taking him out to team him a lesson at some point.
Scotty
This was the first F1 race I've watched in full for a while - I love Spa. Turned out be to be quite an eventful one ... aside from the pole sitter just driving off and winning.
