Am I mad?

Actually, I didn't see the photos before I replied.

Definitely, definitely, definitely a 3 door.  I think.  :roflmao:

I'm sure.  99% anyway.  See, I've seen 4 door versions before and they do stand out - so when you see a 3 door I knew something was different about it and that's why I thought of your car (I think).  Anyway, looking at those photos I am certain it was much more like yours.  The doors can't be the only difference?  The reason I say that is that it looks just like yours, but not like the other car and I'm pretty sure it isn't just the doors making me convince myself of that!

Take my car - 128k miles now - guess what, still under warranty from BMW. Has cost me nothing in repairs. NOTHING, not a thing.

Zero.

So, yeah, toss.

Erm, isn't that just backing up what Ian said? new car, warranty, no repair bills.

Well, sure, only mine isn't new? 2nd owner. And it's got 128k miles on it, and is getting on for 6 years old.

So, apart from that, yes.

I've just read all of that in the voice of Indecisive Dave from the Fast Show :roflmao:

You'll have to forgive me and my poor inferior little brain, but it sounds like you're saying you bought a newer car, with a warranty, and you haven't had to pay for any repairs.

Isn't that exactly what Ian said?

5 pages - has he bought it yet or has budget creep got to the point where someone's suggested a Routemaster bus?

Going to see it tomorrow, plus a red one on Sunday morning. Decision after Sunday morning.

I did look at a few newer ones. After I'd recovered from the price, I decided I like the 2009 look :)

Kinda  +++

My post was more along the lines of the myth people seem to have sometimes - that a car won't blow up the day the warranty runs out.

Hence

"Depreciation from new is guaranteed.  An older car blowing up when the warranty runs out is not guaranteed"

You agreed yourself Mac - unless I've completely misunderstood your post...?

Well...Tipex...there's context in response.

I want to buy 'x' product, second hand it's in my price range and quite good I think.

NOO! Buy 'y' - it's the same, but 3 times the price and comes with a warranty.

Factually correct, but ****ing retarded from a perspective point of view.

You could argue with that logic that anyone suggesting they want a second hand car should, you know, buy a new one because new.

This thread reads like people haven't followed the query in relationship to the variables involved.

Did wonder about those. The feedback I had when they were newer was quite negative, though. Also, the point of this change is to get out of the capable-but-dull Disco and into something that drives well. I'm not sure a Toerag would do that.

Also, I'm a massive badge snob.

Everyone seems to be buying VW vans at the moment, being a badge snob, how about a Merc van?

Mind you, you did say you wanted something interesting to drive so....

Is a full fat Range Rover any more interesting than a Disco? Without having looked, I would imagine the price of that Porsche buys a much newer one of those?

How does the Porsche cope with the towing though? Are they OK? What sort of weight do you drag along?

Around about a tonne, if that - Caterham plus trailer.  Provided it has a good mid-range pull then it will be fine.  People tow our kind of rig with X1s, 4 series, and so one.  One guy has an E39 M5...

Yes, much more interesting, but in the "will it keep working long enough to reach the track?" way :ffs:

Merc van?

One guy did actually fit out a van with ramps and put the Caterham in the back.  He built a living space around it and had a bespoke race-car-transporter-and-minivan thing.  It was awesome in many ways.  Frustratingly, I missed it when it went up for sale at a ridiculously low price and it hasn't been seen since.
