Great handover, BMW genius guy very complimentary of my chosen options. 1200 mile run in but I am sure 500 is enough and with that engine it doesn't really need to be thrashed. I have been out 3 times today to the shops 10 miles away just because lol. That engine must have taken some shoehorning in !

Thanks for all the advice and feedback its been a long but worthwhile wait :)

The boot lip is very well proportioned across the entire BMW range now.  It makes a huge difference to the appearance of the rear on all the cars and I always look at cars that don't have it and find myself thinking something is missing that should be there as standard.

Hope you're enjoying the car!! Quick question...

I've asked the man at BMW if I can change the spec of the 330e I've got on order, and he's said I can...

So I've changed it to a 235i Convertible

I'm keeping it simple; Estoril blue, Pro Media and heated seats. But, what's the sound system like? Have you gone for the HK option, or the BMW Advanced option? Is an upgrade even necessary - I'm assuming it is?

Thanks :)

I've always had the BMW Advanced option.

I've got to disagree with Azure on this one - I think the Harmon Kardon offering from BMW is absolutely shite.  A total waste of money for the difference.

If you want excellent sound, go elsewhere and get an aftemarket speaker/amp change - for half the price and much better sound.

I personally think the top (HK) BMW audio option is the worst of any major premium brand by a long, long way.

Great - thanks +++

HK is 'only' £600, and the BMW system £295 so it sounds (groan...) like the £305 additional for HK is money well spent. Especially as the sound always seems to suffer slightly in convertibles - maybe the less rigid roof has something to do with it?

Edited as I've just seen NNMM's reply...so may it's not worth the £305 ☺️

I'd be off to somewhere like Hybrid Audio (Rich used to be on here) or a local audio specialist.

Many, many, many years ago I ripped out the Mazda system in an MX5 and had an amp and sub under/behind the passenger seat with tweeters and whatever else in the doors etc.

It sounded fantastic and whilst I probably ended up spending more than a manufacturer (car) system would have been, it was on another level.  I agree with PeterS about the convertible aspect too.  It does change the sound experience significantly.  I used to know a guy who never even listened to music in a convertible because of it.

I won't pretended to be an audiophile; it is a car after all and if I wanted great sound then a car wouldn't be my starting point. So I have no desire or need to spend a fortune. However, I do want a reasonable sound...

I've had a few BMWs over the years, but all with the standard system and they've been average. The latest was a 2012 5 series, and that was acceptable. But it was much better than I remember the other BMWs being.

As a point of reference, I'm quite happy with the standard set up in the Merc; it's loud enough, with decent well rounded sound which never sounds tinny, to me at least. And it's better than the 5 series was in that respect! So if £295 gets me near that I'm happy. If it takes £600 then so be it. In reality I'm unlikely to go aftermarket...
