Sky or BT fibre broadband

I down graded to the lowest VIrgin do as I didn't think there was value in the higher bandwidths. If you have multiple users downloading/streaming etc then it can make senses but the higher speeds don't seem to benefit on a daily basis when I'm often the only user.

My 50 down/5 up is fine and the fact they keep adding bandwidth for free means I can't see me paying for more anytime soon.

We can have 4 devices all streaming HD content, browsing the web, downloading, whatever.  It just laps it all up.

We don't use Virgin for TV though.  It is purely fibre internet and telephone service.

I've just tested it again.  Sunday morning, perhaps the servers would be busier with everyone at home (almost all the houses on the road are on Virgin - you can tell that by the mass of WiFi options you get as you walk down it!) etc.

Nope.

It could do with a faster upload speed of 12Mb on occasions especially when I'm working from home.

I do that every day and I still can't imagine why I'd need more than 12mbps upload.

1 minute and 25 seconds to upload 1gb of data.  1 Gigabyte.

I upload a fair bit of data every day but I can honestly say I've never once thought "I wish that was faster".

How long does it take to download an hour long prog on the iPlayer MrMe?

No idea.  We stream everything.  Never download stuff to take away as all our devices have SIM's so we'd hopefully stream on that when mobile.

I have 20gb of data on my iPhone and the same on my iPad Pro.  I rarely run out between the two and I stream on 3G or 4G for Plex, Amazon Prime, Netflix, iPlayer, Channel 4 etc when I'm away in hotels.

p.s. I also have 4gb on a Windows Phone and 4gb on an Android phone, just in case. :roflmao:

Sky Q, broadband and phone with two Mini Q boxes for full PVR functionality in two other rooms (you can watch/record anything in your planner on them from the main box).

£75 (I think) per month. You do get Sky Go, Sky Kids app etc etc too.

I think the Virgin Vivid 200 XXL (or whatever it is called) is £50 pcm but to us it is worth every penny.  Our average monthly Virgin phone/fibre bill is about £75.

We have a now reduced Sky Multi-room (4) HD package that I think (I haven't seen the bill yet) will be down from £106 pcm to £70.  I could be wrong but I've just been tinkering with that to drop the crap we never watch.

Amazon Prime for Instant Video gets used a lot but I don't think you can factor that in really.  Netflix too.  Not sure how much the latter is now, it just goes out every month.

We could have a Virgin Tivo box and the free "Medium" package on it as part of our Virgin contract but I don't want the bastards drilling the walls any further so I told them to keep it.

Sky HD with Sports pack (no movies,)

Sky Unlinited fibre Broadband

Sky Line rental and call package

£86 but going to £91 shortly according to a recent letter.

Often thought about going to Virgin for the same cost but adds in BT Sport but no Sky Atlantic is an issue for me.

I keep Virgin BB (and we suffer massively from high utilisation issues so it crawls some evenings) and I've just tried to bin off sports and movies but they gave it me for £10pm for 4 months so will get rid in Sept when it goes back to full price and use the various technological gadgets to watch BT sports and footy instead.

Ive kept the main Sky variety pack though

Quite.

I think most will know I was referring to its appalling coverage of football (or more specifically, their commentary on matches).+++

I don't think the commentary is anything like as bad as people like to make out, it was, but it's a lot better now, not as good as Sky or BBC, but better than ITV imo.
