Calm Chris
Thursday PM saw 2 X V22's in plane mode. I believe they were full of SAS on central London training, Hereford to central London 25 minutes, and land nearly anywhere. Odd looking beasts. NewNiceMrMe
Doubt they're be SAS on what are US aircraft. If any UK special forces were doing anything in conjunction with the USAF over central London you'd have almost certainly have seen an exercise announcement on it. They're based at Mildenhall anyway so that must be reasonably close? p.s. Mind you, they're a remarkable sight. JonC
That's a great shot. Must have been quite surreal for those passengers in The Wheel pods.
NewNiceMrMe
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/new-anti-terror-helicopters-spotted-8056973 SAS new toys according to the news. It says "the SAS were expected to take delivery of the new anti-terror choppers this year." I'm still not convinced that is who they belong to. Could be wrong but the MOD almost always announced when forces, even special forces, take delivery of new hardware - and the Osprey would be a very special delivery. I think it would have been published by now if they were theirs.
Calm Chris
This seems accurate, I stand corrected- As is typical for the U.K. press reporting on Special Forces matters, it can not be assumed that this story is completely accurate. It may well be that the SAS has been training with the Osprey, possibly with the help of the Americans. The USAF's 7th Special Operations Squadron (7th SOS) , based at RAF Mildenhall operates the CV-22B Osprey. The press may have gotten wind of some joint training between the SAS and the 7th SOS and assumed that a UK Osprey acquisition was imminent. It may be that UKSF wanted to get some hands on experience with the aircraft type in order to evaluate it as a possible future procurement.
jimdiesel
They have been seen a lot round North Yorkshire in the last few months. In and out of Catterick.
Andrew
I saw them too by London Bridge. Made a hell of a racket as they were in semi-chopper mode by then.
