cabby
Currently on hols in Portugal. Nice resort but sort of in the middle of nowhere on a quieter part of the Algarve. Broadband seemed fast (to me) so I checked and >30Mbps up and down. At home (Bexley, London) we get about 8Mbps with Sky. USwitch says we could get up to 17Mbps us which includes Sky so presume a rather optimistic forecast. Seems crazy that a world city like London has some areas with such shite BB service. CarMad
Problem is the infrastructure BT et al are using is often decades old. My Dad got speaking to a BT engineer in the village they live in recently and asked why speeds are so bad. Apparently in the past they used some Aluminium encased cable and not copper in some places meaning its degraded and won't carry the same speed. As a result a quick rollout now was taking months as they had to replace it with a more modern alternative as even the Fibre speeds ended up being appalling apparently as the not-copper runs from the cabinet were so long. Tipex
CCA, Copper Clad Aluminium according to the BT chap who wired us up, a core of aluminium covered in copper, differing metals promote corrosion, utterly stupid idea. Luckily we don't have it, we still get relatively crap speeds though, on fibre we got around 18mb, since ditched fibre and get 17mb on 'normal' ADSL. However, we should get the full 25mb on ADSL and 75mb on fibre as we are very near the exchange, I find I get faster speeds simply by turning off WiFi on my phone and using the 3G connection, or 4g when it decides to work. NewNiceMrMe
Your upload speed is shit There's a reason for that - my CCTV system constantly uploading data. If I switched it off, it's faster than Ronald Koeman to Everton.

Scotty
Virgin could have told me they'd increased me again . Seems I've been changed from 50 to "Super70" 50 was fine but the upload wasn't too good. Now that's reasonable too.

You'll almost certainly find a message on your online account about your "Upgrade is complete". I've whinged about them a lot in the past but they've been very impressive of late. Vivid is absolutely flying and very consistent.
