Andrew
I've got a MBP backing up to a Time Capsule and it was all working beautifully until recently when the backups would just always be "preparing". Searching online for an answer, removing the antivirus helped others so I binned Sophos and hey presto, backup achieved. Added Sophos back in today and the "preparing" problem is back. It has happened after the latest OSX update to whatever mountain range we are on now - Sierra is it? So, any clues? Don't want to be without anti-virus. Is there a way of excluding it, or whatever is the problem, from backups? I know loads of you use Sophos so I expect the pearls of wisdom are in here somewhere. We also have our "M bomb" to deploy to any Mac related problem don't we!
Andy_Bangle
Seems the OSX forums are alive with the issue, likewise the Sophos forum- take you've seen you're not alone. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7678610?start=0&tstart=0 https://community.sophos.com/products/sophos-home/f/143/t/80195
Andrew
I saw one thread but had not seen those so thanks. Hope they sort it out soon. Turned Sophos off for now to do backups.
Rachel
Toss Sophos and use ClamXAV. (and never be in a hurry to update to the next OS X major release - let others find the bugs then jump after 10.x.1 is out) Edited October 3, 2016 by Rachel
NewNiceMrMe
This is interesting. I use Sophos but I do manual back ups as my important data is synchronised with Dropbox. If I lose everything else (OSX, apps, software etc), I don't really care as that can all be reinstalled quickly. Because of this I was unaware of the issues. However, on the subject of ClamXAV, I moved to Sophos from it. I discovered it had let a few little things through that it shouldn't have done and I found it a little too inactive when it should really have been asking questions. Like Rachel says though, I very rarely update my version of OSX quickly. I'll often wait 2-4 weeks before doing so. That is still quick in the scheme of things. Daz
Yeah I had the same issue on my MBP, turned off Sophos and the TM backups start working again.
