Encrypted external drives

Was looking to buy an encrypted external drive that I can use with a Mac and also a pc.

Aim is to store my teaching cases and medicolegal images etc.

I know of this - which I know works - but wonder if there are other ways of doing this in the era of Bitlocker, Trucrypt etc?

Would Veracrypt do what I wanted?

so I buy A.N.Other portable external drive, install Veracrypt on it then anything I install on it is password protected on Win and OSX?

also in what way is this not up to the job please?

64bit encryption and 1/3 of the price of the one I listed and about 1/10 of the price of the datalocker one?
