A4 Cab's with Bose

I'm having a little discussion with my dealer which I hope the combined brainpower of the people on this forum can help me with.

I'm absolutely convinced that an A4 Cab with Bose has a subwoofer somewhere. My recollection of the speaker set up with Bose is 2 in the back panels, two in lower part of doors, two by the wing mirror casings, 2 on top of the dash next to the side window air vents, 1 centre speaker and 1 subwoofer.

The dealer can find all the speakers on his technical database, except for the subwoofer. I seem to remember someone saying it was tucked into a footwell behind the dash, but I can't be certain. Can some one please confirm where the subwoofer is. If someone has an exploded technical diagram and / or part number, even better. Thanks in advance.

I'm lead to believe that the Bose has a sub woofer too. From memory the standard Audi stereo has 9 speakers and 190 watts output, the Bose has 10 speakers and 220 watts through six amps, the extra speaker being the sub.

But no idea where it's fitted though I'm afraid, sorry. smashfreakB.gif

.... a bit of background may help to clarify where I'm coming from here. When I was ordering my cab, I asked for a demo of Bose and non Bose systems in a cab. I was offered a demo of Bose in the cab, and non Bose in an avant.

It turns out that saloons and avants (and A3's for that matter) have a sub in the boot as you say and it's easily accesible in the avant behind a panel from my recollection.

The issue is that the salesman assured me the speaker and amp setup in a cab is the same as a saloon. This is not the case. The non Bose setup in a cab does not have a subwoofer and as a consequence, has a severe lack of bass.

My dealer has taken this on board, and are considering options, but in their investigations, the parts manager and the service manager could not find the Bose sub for a cab. I'm certain there is one somewhere and behind the dash has been mentioned (the 10th speaker as opposed to the 9 standard ones)

The course of action they are suggesting is to install the Bose system which involves removing all speakers and amps (and possibly wiring), implying the removal of most of the car's interior, and fitting the full Bose system. I not even going to tell you the cost, but needless to say, it will be at no cost to me.

My concern is that if they do all this work and have neglected to fit a sub because they can't find a part number for it, and there's still a lack of bass, they would have wasted a lot of time and money and we're back to having a debate. I obviously want to avoid this and having a clear view on the Bose sub would help. Any suggestions ?

How long have you had your car ?? Don't think I'd be particuallary happy with my dealer ripping my new car to pieces in an attempt to dealer fit a factory fit only option, just because they've cocked up at the order stage. Can't you refuse the car, if it has only just arrived, and insist that they reorder for you, as per your original instructions.

My dealer recounted a story similar to this when I was ordering BOSE for my new car, as way of explaining how different it is to the std stereo set-up ices_blah.gifices_blah.gif He basically said that he was aware of a dealer which had mistakenly ordered an A8 without BOSE even though the customer had requested it. When it arrived and they realised they're mistake, they embarked on dealer fitting the BOSE. In the end it cost the dealer somthing like 8.5k to fit the system, a hell of a long time and not a great result. He basically said that after hearing that story no dealer would attempt dealer fitting BOSE again.

I'd be very warry of getting them to fit BOSE m8, just get another car out of them grin.gif

...yep, already discussed, this is part of the Audi customer issue 'process'.

I just have to consider the option, but I have come to the conclusion it's a dung.gif idea. Either way, if it wrecks the car or the sound of the system is shite, the car is rejected. FYI, my car has just had it's 1 year old birthday on 1st March. It spent it in the garage !

Here's a pic of the cab setup...

Sven, that's great, many thanks.

In the diagram for the cab, each identified speaker seems to be an individual type. Is the speaker identified as number 6 the sub as the all the other ones look like they are located as I would expect on a standard installation. It appears to be located behind the dash area where other people believe the Bose sub is. Any chance of a part number, thanks.

Sven, now this is where it starts getting interesting ! I can only see from the diagram and the parts list 9 speakers (plus the cell phone one), which is fine for a std cab, but the Bose comes with 10. Apologies for being a pain, but is there a different set of diagrams and parts for a Bose installation in a cab ?

The cab doesn't have a subwoofer. The lower front door speakers act like a woofer.

For me I'm quit happy that no subwoofer like in the A4 avant/saloon is included in the cab, as I felt that that was providing too much boomy-ness (is it English?).

Now it's more like the (more refined) Harman Kardon in my former BMW smile.gif

Would be amazed if the Bose set up in the cab didn't have a sub woofer for three reasons.

1. Bose is big on lots of little speakers plus a sub woofer to give bass, look at all their home systems.

2. It definitely says that the Bose is 10 speakers versus 9 speakers for the standard set-up. If you were going to add one additional speaker to a stereo set up you'd expect it to be either a central speaker (and it isn't that cos the standard system already has this in the centre of the top of the dash), or a sub. Any other type of additional speakers you'd otherwise expect to be paired, not just a single additional.

3. It just sounds like its got a sub. The Bose in my Cabrio is the only car stereo that doesn't have me reaching for the bass control to boost the pathetic low down sound, I keep it "flat" in this car. I can't believe it manages to be that powerful a bass without a sub.

Chad Said [ QUOTE ]

Could it be the same set up as the BOSE system in the TT whereby the 2 rear speakers behind the rear seat are just for BASS ampitude and so act as a sub-woofer?

[/ QUOTE ]

In my TTC there was no sub but in my TTR there was (both had bose)

I have'nt tried this , but what happens when you switch the front/rear fader to completely rear bias ?, if you are right do you still get the sub woofer effect out of the front speakers ?

If sub woofers appear in other Audi Bose setups and the only difference in our cars is the soft top then why would they not have a tenth sub woofer speaker in the cab ? confused.gif

I just looked it up in a Dutch A4 cab brochure dated june 2003 and it states that the Bose system indeed has 9 speakers:

- One center speaker in the dashboard

- Two speakers front

- Four high tone speakers front

- Two subwoofers front

The non-Bose system also has 9 speakers:

- One center speaker in the dashboard

- Six speakers front

- Two speakers in the back

Just to back up Dutchcab's post I found the attached on the German Bose website (similar diagram to Sven's). It does indeed mention only 9 speakers so not quite sure of how they define the 10th subwoofer speaker ! (sorry I could'nt find an English version smashfreakB.gif)

Hmmm... well here's interesting.

I got the info about the Bose being 10 speakers from the Audi configurator when I was speccing my car. When you spec the options you can click on them for a description. Now at the time the Bose was describes as being ten speakers, six amps and 220 watts. Now when you click it has been changed to simply say "Bose Sound System - with high performance speakers and amplifiers".
