hi, I am asking for a bit off help on this one, basically had a scooby, but then it went bang(brown trousers).

So I want to replace it with an evo, but the questions are basically, at what mileage do I need to look out for major service problems, like scoob with clutch and stuff.

cheers for any help.

jon

a mate of mine is running his EVO6 at high usage level and he constantly trashes it, he's now around the 40.000km mark and not a thing has gone wrong,

apart from the silly gas usage they are quite good, not too many things go wrong on them

a 5 looks less agressive than a 6, and a 5 also has bigger lights in the front grille (more scooby like)

I prefer the 6

they are just MEAN notworthy.gif

I had a really heavily modified evo7 - they are great cars and a lot of fun (when they work!) If you plan to leave the car standard or modify slightly then any model will do but if you want to have a bit more fun or modify it go for an RS spec as they have a much better rear diff system (lsd rather than the electronic job offered on other models) Evo 6 RS is a stonkingly good motor but you have to watch as it has none of the safety features that you get in GSR / FQ spec'd cars like ABS , ACD, Active Yaw etc - but they are great funĀ±!

I dissagree, I think the 5 is far and away the most agressive looking EVO, TME is the best looking though.

Defo, the 5 is the beast. Would still take the 6 anyday over any other evo though, possibly not the new FQ340, we shall see beerchug.gif

The six is a better buy than a five especially if you are going to tune the car. Which you will most definitely want too !!!!!!!!!!!

The six has the following improvements over a five

cooling channels added to the pistons

coolant passages in the engine revised to aid cooling

Improved oil pan baffle

Improved oil cooler

Forged front knuckles (Front suspension)

forged Ali rear trailing arms

Improved body stiffness 130 additional spot welds and structural adhesive was also used along with thicker guage metal in stressed areas

The RS version also had a titanium alloy turbocharger also fitted to the TME (the standard 6 GSR turbo is better though if you plan to mod the car)

The fives front bumper looks slightly better in my opinion but the six's bumper is more functional offering enlarged apertures to aid cooling and smaller fog lights to reduce drag

Things to watch out on evo's are as follows

Warped Brake Discs Very common

Clutches can last as little as 5 or 6 fast starts due to the massive traction these cars have and the fact that the clutch is the weak link by design in the drive train.

Rattly top end usually caused by clogged/worn lash adjusters.

AYC pump failiure (Ā£1800 plus vat for a new one)

Fuel cuts are quite common if the car is running a zauhst and de-cat.

Syncro's wear in the gearbox.

These cars eat tyres and fuel like there is no tommorrow but are reliable if looked after and serviced regularly.

4.5k small service is around Ā£200 - Ā£250

45k cambelt and balncer belt service Ā£700 - Ā£800 if nothing else needs replacing

They are very expensive to run but worth it I allways found it funny because Scoob owners never wanted to play when you drew alongside. I wonder why smile.gif

I had an Evo 6GSR spec as follows

18" Speedline flowformed alloys with 225/40/18 tyres

2 piece front discs with DS 2500 pads

Blitz Nur spec exhaust

De-Cat

Apexi Boost controller

Blitz SUS induction kit

Uprated rod bolts

Remapped ECU

Uprated Fuel Pump

Forge Dump Valve

Forge 3 Point strut brace

Samco Boost, induction and turbo hoses

AP racing clutch

The car made just over 350bhp and 330ft/lb of torque running 1.5 bar of boost
