New 270bhp V6 for 2005 Touareg?

From US website, Autoweek.com:

"Trouble is brewing between VW and Porsche, according to reports in Germany. The media there say VW wants to update its base Touareg in late 2005 with a 270-hp 3.6-liter V6 running FSI direct-injection, replacing the 220-hp 3.2-liter V6.

Porsche, which has a deal with VW for 3.2-liter V6 engines for its mechanically identical base Cayenne, was caught unaware of its four-wheel-drive partner’s plans for the new V6. VW chairman Bernd Pischetsreider recently approved those plans without the knowledge of Porsche boss Wendelin Wiedeking."

Funny isnt it - i mean little old me knew of the existence of the 3.6 V6, but porsche didnt!!!! Would be nice to see it happen though.

I did read somewhere that the Cayenne V6 has a slightly modified intake compared to the Touareg and R32 - wonder if this gives any difference in power delivery?

The Porsche 3.2 is supposed to deliver 250bhp - up 30bhp on the Touareg. As you say, the Cayenne has a modified intake system - and also a different exhaust (which has led many US Treg owners to debate the feasibility / effect of transplating the Pepper exhaust onto the Treg).

Despite the extra 30bhp, the Pepper's quoted 0-60mph time is only something like 0.2 sec faster (9.7 instead of 9.9 I think...).

Personally, I wish they hadn't detuned the Treg's V6 from the R32 spec... but there you go.
