Adam
Have now flogged all my separates and want something simpler and neater - also good looks rather than cutting edge sound quality as it will be on show rather than hidden in cabinet so considering a B&O 9000 - they look lovely and operation is very cool - bit of a rip having to spend £££ on matching B&O speakers (cleverly amp is in speakers so hard to match to rival brands) anyway does anyone have an opinion on the B&O kit? Are there any one-box-solution rivals out there that look as good and sound good too?
s4dreamer
Linn Classik Ok, not quite as nice as the B&O, but a lot cheaper, sound is better and it supports multi-room using CAT-5 connections. I have a suspicion TAG-McLaren made a "system" too, but that was v. expensive (although reportedly very, very good). From what I've read, some B&O stuff is quite good, but some of it is pants. It's always expensive, though. However, it always looks the doggies, so see if you can find some reviews in HiFi mags etc.
John32
I am really impressed with Cyrus stuff, not a design statment like B&O but top sound quality. Linky John
Adam
linky no worky that TAG stuff was very expensive IIRC what about the Bose stuff? - looks quite good and it could operate as hi-fi and surround sound for telly (which I don't have as yet)
apreading
Bose and B&O fit inthe the same category in my experience/opinion - hi class low-fi. You want hifi then I think Linn is probably the best all in one. Denon used to do some lifestyle stuff which was pretty good in the lower price brackets and would beat the pants off Bose or B&O - come to think of it so would Sony/panasonic/pionerr etc too! Colin M
Maybe not as "designer" as you'd like but I highly rate the Denon DM31 system. The sound quality is excellent and it is extremely good vfm. I would argue this sounds just as good as any £1,000 B&O or Bose set up. Linky to Pricerunner Linky to Denon UK
Paul
I have the previous Denon UD-M30 CD/Reciever with supplied Mission book shelf speakers. I went for the single tray CD, rather than bulky clattery and slow 3 cd changer model Great little stand alone unit.
Colin M
Quite right Paul, it's the better single CD unit I have too.
Adam
hmmm still no wiser - those denons look nice but £250 - my budget is £1000-1500 so perhaps that Linn Classik thing would be good. I thik ideally I want a one or two box tuner/amp/CD/DVD that also has surround sound processors - then all I need to do is hook up speakers (Kef eggs seem a good choice but not sure if the Linn will work with them) and a TV - actually that Kef KIT might be a good solution (£1200 for the hardware and reasonable surround sound from two speakers and a sub) decisions, decisions

Considering what it does, I think you'll be surprised how small the box is (if you haven't seen one already). Linn also supply matching flat-panel speakers which will work well with the Classik. However, the Kef "eggs" should serve you just as well.
JaffaCake
Adam, I've got a Bose lifestyle system which I'm more than happy with. You're welcome to an audition, I'm based near Weybridge, Surrey, so not far from you. PM me if you've any questions.
acegadget
As the man in the Ad would say "SSSHHHHttttop!!" As I could say I am an expert in this stuff.....I do run a branch of Sevenoaks Sound & Vision. I would say B&O is a looks and reliability thing but sound quality for the money is As for the Linn Classik for stereo award winner many times over......But it doesn't do Surround sound. For this you want a Linn Classik Movie but that is not very good and expensive. Problems were to much in one box with loud fan noise No RGB out etc. Now if you came to me I would say the new Denon slimline AV Amp and DVD DVD770 and AVR770 with the Kef Eggs. I could do this for you for £1300 plus cables and I think you would love it.
Colin M
Gadget, I'm pleased to hear you recommend the Denon product. I have an Arcam/Mordaunt Short surround set up downstairs, but the little Denon unit in the bedroom. I am very impressed with the Denon's sound quality, even more so that it was only £250. A3Floyd
I really like Denon kit. I've had one of the old pma250 amps for about 5 years now and it's just not worth replacing it cos it sounds great. I've never been so keen on the lifestyle stuff out there but i've got to admit that they're very good nowadays. My mate has got the Bose dvd thingy (not sure what the model number is) and it sounds and looks fairly impressive though it was damned expensive at £2500! Definately not worth the money in my opinion cos it didn't sound anything like a £2500 system. If i was going to spend money on a lifestyle system, i probably wouldn't be giving it to Bose cos i'm in the opinion that they're selling reasonable equipment at top-end prices - Their Acoustimass range is a very good example of this. JaffaCake
I agree with the Bose premium, my £1250 system was probably the equiv. af a £900-1000 full size setup. I was happy to pay it for the minimal impact on the room though.
Adam
thanks for the advice jaffa - cheers for the offer, will do some more research but if I am looking at Bose I moght well take you up on that which model do you have? Gadget - thanks for the tip - the Denon kit does look very neat. re. speakers I am prepared to sacrifice some sound quality for stealth appearance (esp. rears) - do any of these no-rears pseudo surround systems work well? Would you go for the Kefs or should I be considering something else had a quick look on price runner and best prices were: AVR 770 £320 DVD 770 £220 Kef KHT02995.2 £600 (is this the most recent one?) what are the Denon SYS-A 2.1 speakers like as you per your picture - a lot cheaper at £

I believe the CD models are end of line now, being replaced by the DVD ones. I paid £1250 for mine, but that was many years ago and I believe you could pick up an end of line for less than £1k now. I looked at some of the other systems mentioned on here last weekend and they seemed to cost a lot more. Offer is still open mate, bring your own tunes/dvds for a proper workout.
