Steve_S3
Goddamn it - my S3's clutch is slipping again!! The clutch was replaced last year in March, and now it's slipping again. It slips when the revs hit around 3k. The car's only done 30,000 miles - around 10,000 of these on the new clutch. Last time it was a leaking cylinder in the clutch housing that caused it. Only problem is the car has been chipped, so the dealer will charge me if it's not a fault...... Better start saving some pennies
DeanS3
I've been through two clutches on S3's, they are crap if you ask me. I recently had the standard clutch replaced with an uprated MTM clutch from quattrosports. I've got nothing but good things to say about it. Its a bit harsher, but i love it. the car feels faster than ever. www.quattrosports.co.uk Its also cheaper to have done than the standard one from Audi
Steve_S3
Dean, How much was it, if you don't mind me asking? Did you get Kim to fit it? My worry is that, if I take it to the dealer and they say it's not a fault (the car is still under warranty), I'll end up paying their labour even if they don't put a new clutch in. But if I take it to Kim, I'll pay full whack anyway...... Decisions, decisions.....
WayneS3
My S3 only has 16000 miles on it. Clutch has been slipping now and again since 12000. Assume the 265bhp chip is more than it can handle. Any ideas on the cost of a new one from Audi and MTM?
nicks3
waynes3, are you saying that your clutch slips sometimes and not others...if so that seems strange, anyone else had this?
DeanS3
Take my advice and get Kim to fit the MTM one, dealers are well funny with clutches and will try and get out of it if they can. Maybe ask them first. before taking it in. but if they see youve already done one clutch its unlikely they'll give you another. My first S3 was unchipped, the clutch was slipping so i took it the the dealer. the dealer couldn't find a fault and told me to carry on driving it and to let them know if it got worse. Well i decided to take it back after the clutch was completley killed (i thought that would make sense) And was then presented with a £2100 bill 5 days later, after many arguments with the dealer and with Audi UK, i got nowhere and ended up paying the fu*king bill just to get my car back. They hadnt recorded the time i went in to get it checked so i didnt have a leg to stand on. the warranty doesnt really cover the clutch if you read it. That car was completley unmodified at the time. Basically because i let the clutch get really bad it scored the flywheel and thats why the bill was so big. I think the bill from Kim was about £700, but i might be wrong. the parts only cost about £300. its mostly labour. Audi wanted £940 to replace my last clutch so i told them to f off, and used Kim. WayneS3
Nick , Yes the clutch doesnt seem to slip every time. It happens when the boost kicks in. Sometimes its fine but occasionally the revs climb without the car accelerating much and then it seems to get it together and go. I assume its on its way out and will simply get worse until either I or Audi replace it. Looking at the costs shown on here I will probably go down the MTM clutch route. Presumably this clutch is supposed to be able take the extra go from the chip.
Steve_S3
Mine user to do this too - it would settle down after a while and not slip again until the next time you had to change gear. As others have said, eventually it will slip all the time (usually around 3000rpm when the boost really kicks in). I'm gonna save up my pennies for a trip to Kim Collins for the MTM jobbie, and sort it once and for all.
Chrisg
Interesting bit on Audiworld - they have just upgraded the TT clutch, no mention of costs though Are these MTM clutches heavier to work than the standard ones ?
