Resetting of 97 Polo service reminders

I'm getting an oil service reminder, even tho' I just had an annual service a couple of weeks ago. Is there any way I can reset it myself? I tried the method it said in my Haynes manual, but it doesn't work.

Problem is, it doesn't even correctly describe what's on my display anyway. In the Haynes manual, it said the reset button under the speedo is used to change between the total mileage and trip mileage. Mine actually has both. Therefore the button is only used to reset the trip mileage. Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.

Hello and Welcome to TSN

I believe the only way to reset service warnings is to either go to VW or use VAG-COM (software) see this forum for more information (VAG-COM)

I could be wrong though, someone here should be able to confirm this!! smile.gif

First thing, why not take it back to the garage that did the service. confused.gif

Now You can reset most VW service lights on the dash by switching the ignition on press and hold the trip reset button then switch the ignition off let go of the button and if should flash up Oil or serv or insp depening what type you have then you press and hold the clock adjust button till dashes appear then you press the trip button to move onto the next service and press and hold the clock button again and that should do it!

The only thing most, doesnt include a 1997 polo. Sorry mate looks like a service tool for yours!

  • 3 weeks later...

it's in the manual, just checked it, and on the model that I have, a 51 Reg Polo Tdi. Press and hold in the TRIP RESET BUTTON, and whilst it is held in, you turn the ignition key to ignition on . RED LIGHTS ON DASH etc.( DO NO START THE CAR). Leave the RESET TRIP button pressed in for approx 10 seconds or more, and FOUR dashes will appear on the service interval screen. THIS IS NOW RESET FOR THE SERVICE INTERVAL.

Try that one. Another one for say OIL changes is very similar but you have to keep pressing the reset trip button to get to the proper service setting. grin.gif
