Good reply Drill, just solved all his problems!!

Check the sensors behind each of the wheels, they can easliy get covered in mud and crap. Give them a good clean and see if the fault goes. Have u plugged in a Vag com for fault codes?

My A3 did the same. I took it to Audi and they fault code indicated that i needed a new ABS pump at a total cost of £900+ fitted crazy.gif123576-assfeck.gif

Luckily, a pump came up on Ebay, same part number and completely brand spanking new! i won it for just £30 beerchug.gif Result!!!!

But i never got around to fitting it cos the light went off and i sold the car soon afterwards. I would recommend cleaning the sensors cos i still beleive that it was them which was the problem and not the ABS pump. If however, you do need a nice shiny new ABS pump for 1/20th of the price that Audi will charge you, just give me a shout! beerchug.gif

Mo,

When you say behind the wheels, where do you mean? What do they look like? Front wheels or back?..I'd like to believe front (Can you tell I dont know much about this tongue.gif).

Reason I ask is my ABS and ESP light comes on intermittently, say like once a month but after I switch the ignition on and off.. I'm free for another month or so. I havent been round much to take it to the stealers again.. If its something I can do myself, I'm willing to give it a go.. Also need VAG Com to check it out..but I really think its a sensor fault. The last time it happened, it wouldn't even go off after re-starting the ignition a few times so I disconnected the battery for a while and its been okay since..even so, I still want to have a look and see if the sensors f**ked.

I've tested the brakes to see if the ABS is working and it all seems to be fine..and the ESP seems to be working fine as well so, before those stealers hope to come up with an excuse for more of my money, I want to check it out myself first

i've only ever checked the fronts myself. When you take the wheels off, have a look behind the disk and you'll see another smaller disk attached to the hub which has loads of square shaped holes in it. Just behind this disk, you'll see a rectangular sensor. This is where the crud can build up. give it a good clean and it should fix the fault.

I hope that this explains it ok!

Tony,

If u remove one of the front wheels u will see a cable that is attached to the shockabsorber in the form of a loop, follow this cable towards the brakes side and u will come to the abs sensor. It may be better to unscrew it and clean it that way coz its head is hidden and reading some cogs on the rotating shaft.

Is this clear enough for u ?

Floyd

Do u have the aecu and pump or just one item ?

Floyd,

Thanks for that, I’ll have a look and give it a go sometime when I get back home this weekend. I think it might be the front offside one, as every time it’s happened, it always seems to be shortly after I’ve turned left quite sharply.

And Drill,

Don’t let me tell you about the brake pedal sensor on A3’s. (The word pants comes to mind), I remember having mine changed quite a few times by the dealer and always working erratically. In the end, I sold the car like that..

I cant remember now - it was so long ago! it looked as if it is was just the pump. I can dig it out and find the part number if you want? it was fairly heavy cast ally with loads of holes where the pipes would screw in.

Tony, I just recently had the ESP light coming on on my TQ and it turned out to be the brake light switch at the pedal smashfreakB.gif

On my diesel when I had a faulty brake light sensor the glow plug light lit up like a christmas tree.

Thanks for the replies guys, it's due for a service now, so I'll take it in and see what they say. Any audi garages in East London? And why is it the Service in 1000 miles has gone up after I did 500 miles? And now it says "Service in 1200 miles" ?

Ur car must be set to the audi AVS #, it means that the car reads how u drive ur car be it like miss Daisy or like its stolen and hence it compensates for the driving style.

If its gone up from 1000 to 1200 after driving 500 miles then ur driving is like Miss Daisy grin.gif
