Mike_Avant130TDI
Can anyone clarify what the red I 's etc mean on Audi , VW etc. I have an A4 and the RED I means 130BHP But what if a VW Passat / A6 has a RED I etc ???? Thanks
SPLiiX
A higher brake horse power just like yours! Some also have a red "D" and "I" bigger still i think
fatcat
My old 130 A3 Tdi had the red 'i'.
shao_khan
I think on VW it is usually red i is 110/115, red DI is 130 and red TDI is 150...although it does depend upon year as some 150 golfs are GTTDI instead!!!
cheechy
Slight correction - the red DI on the VW stands (or did stand for) the PD engines - I've got a 115 and its got the red D and I. The red I was used on the 110 I believe. May have changed on the later models though. I think Audi used a different system??
Techie
They allways seem to be changing, and they get changed by owners. My TDi on the engine cover is all silver and mines a PD200
SPLiiX
Just noticed - an Sline has a red "T" with a aluminium trim round it!
Botang
Ive got a Passat (51 plate new shape) with a Red D and I but it says in the handbook it is a 74KW which is 100bhp?
cheechy
Yup - it means that its a PD engine and not the previous generation engine (which would have been either a 90 or 110bhp). I think that might have changed since they went all PD though.

[/ QUOTE ] That's because its a 190ps, while the silver "T" one's have 150ps front wheel drive and 163ps quattro.

sam024
I've got a VW Golf 130 TDI and the DI is in red and in the book the engine power is 96KW which is 130 BHP
shao_khan
Welcome to tyresmoke. VW badges are designed to confuse - thats all there is to it, makes it harder for second hand buyers to know what they are getting - sure of it!!!!

rmmacauley
There is no way of judging what is under the bonnet by the badge really - so many different power outputs , badges , then the owner may change the badge anyway.....

rmmacauley
Any idea of 0-60 , 30-70 times etc? I used to have a Golf Gttdi 150 and it did 30-70 in 6.8 through the gears which was impressive , but not as impressive as the fact that if you just left it in third gear it did 30-70 in 7.0 exactly! The Golf was a bit handicapped by not being able to put much of it's power down if the road wasn't dry.
