caldyman
Recently bought 1999 S8.Had it for about 4 weeks now. Since i have had it the brakes are making a sound like they are sticking , difficult to describe the sound ,this only happens when you release the brake pedal slowly when in drive mode , i thought it might be the Pads wearing in , but after 4 weeks i would imagine that they would be bedded in by now. The brakes still function and appear to be working OK I have been to the audi Dealer and after him sitting in the car and listening to this sound (No phisical inspection was carried out) said it is nothing to worry about , he said he has seen this before on another S8 with only 6k on the clock , mine has done 51k. I am not convinced , it is still bugging me , i don't think this should be making a sound at all. Any ideas ????? Any Advice would be appreciated Thanks. Sven
Sounds like the calipers (pistons) not moving freely. This happens sometimes when the pads are renewed, and subsequently the calipers have to move inward further than before. You mentioned pads wearing in, so I assume they were renewed? Jack up the car, see if the wheels rotate freely (car in neutral, a block behind the other wheel(s)). If not demand they rework the calipers. PaulW
skiwi from Audiworld has had a similar problem (along with a lot of S8 owners) and he thought it was coming from the rear, but it was coming from the front. He has a facelift S8 with the Brembo's up front, I don't know if your 99 had the Brembos or not....but here was his solution: skiwi's hopeful solution to brake squealing problem
