superfast
Hi I am a new member and recently purchased A3 1.8 T Quattro..the car has brought out the 'boy racer' in me and I have already modified through AMD from 190bhp to 240bhp. Can anyway one tell me of the best Induction Kit as AMD said the 57i can allow air into the turbo?! Has anyone taken their A3 to 300bhp? If so what alterations were made with approx costs. Many thanks .

Drillslinger
I think Lee is reffering to Rich at JBR Performance. IIRC he's using an IHI turbo

[/ QUOTE ] Induction kits are not brilliant on turbo cars because they get so hot under the bonnet, even worse when chipped. coupled with the fact the A3 only has one intercooler to try and cool the now hot inlet charge down (S3 has two intercoolers and i still wouldnt run a induction kit) Ok. you could run a cold air feed to it from front bumper, but given the downpours we have had in our SUMMER! i wouldnt risk it. I drove to work the other day, in near 3 inches of water for 15 miles. You dont want a cold air feed for induction kit, hoovering any of that water up. Amd usually advise to keep the standard air box and filter which is infact very good , and in my case good for 275bhp just change it every 10K miles for £
quattroboy
Paul, are you saying that fitting something like a Taipan Quickshift is not a good move? I thought something like this would help in feeding the engine with cold air?
Cupramax
It never ceases to amaze me that every Tom Dick & Harry thinks that they can design an induction system better than VW themselves. As Paul says the standard airbox is a good design with a cold air feed under the left headlight. Mine is also running 275hp (a Leon Cupra R not an S3, but its the same engine) with completely standard air filter and DV. Dont waste you money... quattroboy
Thanks for that. I think I'm just pulling my plonker on what to do to a car that is already pretty quick. I won't even bother asking about the Neuspeed bigger inlet pipe, unless this really would make a difference
Paul
with a fresh air filter i have seen figures around the 200grms/sec through the maf on my remapped car, thats more than enough and healthy breathing. (also a way of checking the MAF) I dont like the QS tiapan either, i think they look awful more than anything else.
superfast
Really the point of my question was two fold, 1. to see if others A3/S3 car owners were using inductions kits - what ever they maybe and 2. to see if any one had achieved the 300bhp (affordably of course!) on the A3 1.8T Q. I spoke with Turbo Technics today, (their turbo KKK is used by AMD in their stage 4) and was informed that 300bhp on the A3 would be too much for the manifold to handle. So looks like gonna have to stay in the late 280's early 290's bhp without causing too much harm. On you guys with the 275bhp what sort of figures on performance are you getting? Paul
ive never quater miled mine, i am sympathetic to the tyres , clutch gearbox and dif... I tend to get it rolling and then plant it, if i want to press on. book figure for a 225 S3 is 6.4 secs 0-60 with a remapped you should ealsily be in the mid 5's less if your unforgiving. gearing is also unhelpful. Your need to change to 3rd to see a true 60mph.
