18ME
I took these rather bad phone pics at Listers in Worcester the other week of an undisquised S4 Diesel Cab What do ya reckon? doesn't look any different to a regular diesel cab so I imagine it must go like stink for someone to put the S4 badges on the font and back. The car has been sold by Listers too.. You would imagine the salesmen would be embaressed to sell the car with those badges on wouldn't you. Ari
Thats tragic!! Amazed the garage would agree to fitting S4 badges to a car that wasn't...
Ari
I'll tell you what annoys me most about these rebadging wannabe's, its the fact that it's a perfectly good and very desirable car as it was. Now rather than people looking at it and thinking "smart car", they'll be thinking "saddo". Classic example, years ago there was a bloke round my way driving an imitation Porsche 959. Basically it was a 911 with 959 look body panels on it. Now I like 911's, and if he'd left it alone I'd have thought "nice car" when I saw it but cos he'd done this 959 imitation with it I just thought "yeah, dream on" instead... 18ME
Completely agree Ari. De-badging is one thing but re-badging to say its something that it obviously isn't is another. Take my car for instance...I've de-badged it because it looks cleaner from the back and quite anonymous, so anyone that sees it would probably think nice Audi A4 Avant for what ever model it is, but if I put S4 badges on, I'd deserve to get my head kicked in
JamesB
And what about rebadging 'downwards'? You've got an S4 that you bought for its inherent qualities but don't want any attention drawn to it so you rebadge it 1.8T, for example. Is this equally reprehensible? Likewise just debadging a top of the range car like an S4, it simply suggests you've bought the car for its qualities and not its "snob value". Badging "up" (ie M3 badge on a 318i, or as in this case S4 badge on a diesel) is very "fake Rolex", it merely announces to the world look what I wanted and couldn't afford
Scotty
I was gonna ask about down badging as I was sorely tempted to put TDI badges on. In the end I couldn't bring myself to do it (plus the wife didn't understand!!). Seeing the S4 badges on the diesel cab I thought was funny. I thought that the owner was having a giggle as it is so different performance wise it must be a joke. As for a dealer reselling like that...that's just plain wrong.
