2.7T Engine

Basically the same engine but there are some "engineered in" differences.

As far as I can tell from some of the documentation I've read the difference start with the ecu which has a completely different map designed for tourque output. The Audi documentation states that you can't use the ecu from the S4 due to transmission limitations. Which implies that Audi have 2 different 6 speed transmissions for this engine, which I doubt. confused.gif

Moving on from that I think they run different turbos, after that I'm not sure.

Short answer yes they are different, but how hard it would be to bring them into line I don't know. Chipping the A6 and a little bit of work should get the same power anyway...

Is the 2.7T in the A6 (not S6) the same as the 2.7T in the S4 (not RS4) ? confused.gif

Yes in some ways as Andrew says but internals will be rather uprated! People think for example the PD 130 and PD 150 are just a chip apart whereas in fact con rods and other internals got uprated. Same does for the 1.8T with 180 and 225 bhp. When Tobes was messing around with the Caddy, blew the original 1.8T and bought a tougher version of the 1.8T, he discovered the con rods in the 225 were twice the thickness of the stock 150 version!

  • 4 weeks later...

i haqve tried Revo and APR, the only one that could maybe chip it where apr providing it is a revision 003.

i had to go to upsolute in the end, I am very happy with the results, jst under 1bar pressure, third gear has got a new lease of life, its not just a little quicker, i would say awesome, first can be a little harsh i.e too fast you can find yourself propelled at a great rates of knots in a small space of time.

the four wheel drive copes with it perfectly, switch off the esp though as this seems to limit the torque a little.

i cannot talk about the apr or revo but i am very happy with the results of the upsolute chip.

The engines are same but the mapping is very dfferenet thats why you get 2 totaly different power outputs!

Sven posted the full engine manual in the tech section and tells you every thing about the 2.7Bi-turbo and the differences between the S4 map and the A6 map, Even show you the different BHP graphs Link You have to scroll down a bit but it there!

Remember that the A6 was available with tiptronic - early A6 was 230bhp, later ones 250bhp, whereas the S4 was always 265bhp and manual only - except in USA, where both cars always had 250bhp and a tiptronic option.

Allmost but not quite right! Audi/VW downgraded the spec on the 20V engine they used to have a 22mm Gunin pin then in 2000 this was made 20MM and the conrods were made smaller. Which on the standard spec was no problem and made the engine more fuel efficent. The first 20V turbo engine (150BHP) were bulit bomb proof then it was all spec down as time went on. The reason why the 225 is better is because this is lower compression and better suited to more boost. the best engine you can have in the 20V is the early 150BHP an then drop a set off Low crompression pistions in.
