cabby
Have been looking around to see if a hardtop is available for the A4 and found this. www.wiesmann-auto-sport.de You will need work through a couple of links. Looks pretty good I think. Have asked for prices which I suspect will be pretty steep. Will post once I have info.
Philbes
Price is on web-site €3,500-€4,000 depending if velour or leather lining specified + €230 for initial fitting. Phil
Chav
so its £2500 to turn your lovely a4 cab into another convertible with a hardtop that you cant enjoy until easter :-( a retractable hardtop fair enough. but today is another example of a lovely sunny autumn day. great for roof down driving. and what do i see as normal.... loads of convertibles on the roads with their hardtops on. doh! Ari
I think hard tops have had their day as far as modern convertibles go, what possible benefits are there? The Audi hood is triple lined so it's quiet, warm, and the inside looks like a saloon interior anyway, no ugly bars or anything. So the only thing a hard top would add is removing the ability to drop the roof in the winter, and the niusance of storing the hard top in the summer. And paying for the privelage... jdehoogh
Saw already 3 cabs here in NL with hardtop IMHO: I don't like it.... very large rear window. Another disadvantage: you have to drive all winter with a small trunc. Nice for skiing holidays
Chav
i was just wondering... can hardtop cabrio drivers remove their hardtops themselves, or is it a visit-the-dealer thing. i just cant believe how many convertibles have hardtops fitted on my travels. far most than last winter, and its not even cold yet. obviously some people like them, but do they really forfeit roof-down driving all winter or are they easily removable? i'm also curious, has everyone considering a hardtop got a wind deflector on their cab????... the difference it makes is amazing. 80mph with an outside temperate of 5'C can be nippy without the deflector, but if its inplace you can fry like an egg inside the cab with the aircon on HI and about 50% fan speed
CabGirl
I think they come with a stand/storage container so I'd have thought you just lift the thing off.
cabby
Have been contacted by a UK sales person with the following info. The top is made of fibreglass so is light enough to lift on your own although it not advisabel too fit or un-fit on your own - you need the help of a second person. Main point is you can DIY. UK list prices are steep at £3,300 for leather or £450 less for velour . There is also an initial fitting charge of £250. Each one is built to order to colour(s) can be specficed. [/ QUOTE ] I've heard that as an official A4 accessory, you can get a tough, noiseproof, weatherproof, nicely-lined roof which needs only one person to fit and un-fit it, on a very simple DIY basis, and which comes in a choice of colours. What's more it comes with its own storage system, and will save you well over £3K.

Chav
Ok, am i completely stupid then.... its £250 for an initial fitting...but you can remove it yourself. doesn't that kind of imply fitting is straight forward too and the charge for initial fitting is a complete con???? also, why would anyone want a leather roof lining?..cant exactly sit on it. just seems such a waste, spending all that dosh to make it impractical to drop the roof if youre out and about and fancy catching a few rays or something. and IMHO cabrios with additional hardtops on look pants. Carbono
no, the a4 is not prepared to have a hardtop fitted. some drilling is required, and a kind of a "first installation kit" ist installed. if you have technical knowledge and a "plan", you should be able to do the first installation yourself. once the initial installation was done, you are able to remove the hardtop within seconds. and...a storage kit is included with every wiesmann hardtop. second option: wiesmann germany is waiving the charge if you have it installed in their own workshop in germany. so you better off to take the lady or man for a long weekend trip. maybe a bit more then the £250, but...at least you know what you got! as of "like it or not", well...my cat loves mice! cheers
Chav
>some drilling is required ahh! i was wondering what kept hardtops on. now i know. i was imagining the back of the hardtop had clips that slipped inside the roof open/close mechanism at the back. GCab
Well, it, er, goes down. So to speak. [stifles Inappropriate Thought] You should try it sometime. Lowering the roof, that is. Er.
