Oh for goodness sake. I'll agree that they weren't that slow and that they were probably one of the best handling front engined cars of the 80's but I think that's missing the point. I'll also agree that maybe some of you like the way it looks. However, can't you see that if you drive past anyone, or worse still, stop and get out near members of the general public then what sort of message are you giving off? "Look at my car! It's a cheap way to enter the Porsche marque and it was great...in the 80's."

I think you sum it up nicely, these days this is entirely what it is about, it was designed as a sports car and didnt do a bad job, the vast majority of the public will never be in a position to purchase a newer example.

The whole 80's thing applies to so many cars, UR Quattro, 911 Turbo, Covin replica porsches you could go on for a long time, coem to think about it what about some of those 90's cars like the Audi S3 - cheap ol' tat driven by people with max power aspirations......

Fair Point. The Quattro was great, but managed to do all the 944 did (much more many said) but, then and now, there isn't this 'embarrassment' factor that goes with having one. About the cheap way to eter the marque point, buying a Quattro or a 911 Turbo isn't a cheap way into the marque, and even if it was: it wouldn't be SO obvious.

Colin Chapman.

My first Porsche was a 944 Turbo, loved that car, fast as anything. How can you hate them, they are German, built solid go like stink and handle brilliantly, unless you happen to drive a Lotus??????

I looked at an old Esprit,, before I bought my 1988,Porsche 930S turbo, it was a 1993 model around £15k, drove nice, not very fast, and build quality was worse than BL in the 1970's, I am fiercely British and love our sport car heritage, but I would not own a Lotus, they are owned by Proton for heveans sake. The only one I would get is the Seven and thats built by Caterham, now thats a proper British sports car, unlike the girly Elise with its Toyota/Rover engine.

Right, Mr. Cod Crispies. I quote: 'How can you hate them, they are German' - thats a lot of the problem. Where's the flair, individuality or coolness. I agree that they were probably the best handling front engined car of the eighties and, yes, they are not slow either. This is not The Problem, though. I am worried that you refer to yourself as 'fiercley British' when you admire such a boring, bland and Germanic car. And as for the 930S Turbo which you tried so hard to make a point of showing off earlier, don't even get me started on that arse engined heap of Nazi crap. Your judgement is surely skewed: you say the 944 handles brilliantly, then you buy a 911 and criticise the Elise, which could out handle a house fly.

Colin, you obviously love Lotus, nothing wrong with that. you also have heard of the 930s turbo (911 Slidenose), so you know a bit about sports cars as well. I do not have any problem with Lotus or with you. The problem is this. The last proper Lotus was the MK1 Esprit Period, Colin Chapman was involved in it. He also had a hand in the ill fated Deloean DMC12.

You see the problem is this, Aston Martin build great british sportscars, so do Jag, but i cannot afford one. TVR great looking, but not nice to drive, Noble, crazy car maybe too crazy. So that leaves Lotus for Britan who build the Elise not really a super car you would not put it up against a Ferrari or a 911 or even a SL500 would you Hell even a Volvo V70 T-5 would beat one in the straight. Thats the problem you see, the Italians and Germans have the market all tied up. The Elise is a nice car, I drove one, it handles well, as well as a BMW E36 M3, no better than that I am sorry, but that is the way the world is.

The 911 is a Classic Iconic sports car, just because you don't like it, does not mean you have to force your opinion on everbody else. That is all I am going to say on this matter as you obviously want to inflame people and bore them to death.

I agree with you fully. However, don't think I turn a blind eye to Lotus' faults. I understand that the market place is rich and that the choice, which there is a lot of, lies with the buyer. The 911 IS a classic iconic sports car - I don't like it but I don't force my opinion of it on other people. Everybody is intiltled to their own view. If you think the Elise handles as well as a BMW M3 then fine. My problem is with the 944's general shoddiness - and if you are going to ignore them, obvious though they all are, I can not force you to see my way. My point does not lie with 'when the last proper Lotus was' or if 'Noble are too crazy' but with the 944. The horible, disgusting, hateful 944. It needs to be destroyed. And so do airline pilots who get in my way.

I am afraid you are now getting personal Mr Chapman, who the hell do you think you are? If I were you I would not come near the intake of any of the A320's I drive for a living, you might get sucked in, Why don't you like Airline Pilots, I did not make this personal, you did and it shows just how childish you realy are. Who are you anyway?????? What do you do, I bet it's a really interesting job you have, playing with a computer keyboard or is it an accountant. I have views that you will never in your life see. I have had enough of your stupid and childish ways and will have no more to do with you. Subject Closed.

Oh and the VX 220 is far better than the Lotus, sorry I missed it out!!!!

Right, Captain Bird's brain. Once again, as in any men's lavatory, you are well of the mark. I do not hate airline pilots: I hate airline pilots who defend the 944. It is a ridiculous car. VX220 is turbocharged and so lacks the purity of the Elise. Also, its setup is less rewarding and less well balanced than the Lotus's. And it wasn't there first. And it's a Vauxhall. And it looks worse. So sod off, gaylord. You wouldn't understand. Gimp.

Bird's Eye: Stop hiding behind this mask of 'I drive an aeroplane' and tell us what you really drive.

One more point, relating to your childishness, if I had turned up and said I had a VX220 then you would have said the Elise is better. On a similar note, I think the 747 is quite good. So is the 777. See what I mean? Childish, isn't it?

Thanks Xspencex, I think we really have upset Chapman.

As i said ColinChapman I will not lower myself to argue with you, You don't think I am a pilot well thats up to you, would you like proof? A copy of my Logbooks or maybe my airside pass, or even a copy of my APTL licence complete with my type ratings???? Well you can forget it.

By the way you still have not told us what you do for a living, by the tone of your postings, against me from the first, I would say you are a yob. I really have had enought of you now, you childish spoilt brat. Grow up.
