Drillslinger
[ QUOTE ] p.p.s. It's a public toll road so normal car insurnance is normally sufficient. You should check though although asking sometimes means they say no whereas if you don't ask you're covered! [/ QUOTE ] Unfortunately, German insurance companies tend to exclude it BY NAME But I figure next Spring I'll prolly say to hell with it and go for it anyway

jsheldon
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I've been round in 1995 on the way back from Italy when I did the 'Italian Job' here with a friend, so we were in a Mini. Now I know thats sounds boring, but this car was built from a new body shell, no compromises at all, 1380 engine, Arden 8 port head, straight cut gears, about £20ks worths. [/ QUOTE ] What happend to it .... I'm a but of a mini fan [/ QUOTE ] When we got back the engine and box came out, and was replaced with a Honda CRX Vtec engine in a custom made engine subframe, circa 160 bhp. The rear subframe was ditched and an aluminium one was built. The back seats were removed and an aluminium petrol tank was built. Positioned here would help weight distribution. The exhaust was brought inboard and exited on the side just behind the front door. The front suspension was converted to coilovers. We then began to rewire it, but lost touch for about 12 months. It was then sold to buy a F3 racer. As far as I know a guy in Nottingham bought it who worked for Ford in the gearbox development department. Last I heard he got it finished but it had so much power it was ripping the front suspension apart. The box and engine were sold seperatley, so they will be sat in another Mini somewhere, whoever has got it is one lucky guy. It did feature on front of Mini world in 1996ish, will dig some pics out and scan them.

spudgun
I did a couple of laps in the summer I would echo what the people above said ^^^ If you can see where you are going then floor it, but be careful of approaching those blind crests in 3 figures!!! Luckily I was in a front wheel drive car so could take more liberties

I couldn't afford to right off the value of either car I've driven round there which is why I have insurance. I don't see how value enters into it....although all the bikers said I was mad taking a £25k TT around. They didn't mind coming for rides in that or the S4 though. How/when did you manage that? Every time I hire a car anywhere near the place it is actually written on the paperwork that The Ring is a no, no? Scotty
Yep. I doubt you'd find any UK insurance company with an exclusion for the 'ring...afterall it's just a normal toll road isn't it?

To be honest I used to encourage anyone to go there as I thought I'd feel guilty if they binned it. Now I say go for it and it they do then it's down to them.
