nasty noise ?

Hi all i have just picked up my new 3.2 and have a problem already. As i pick up speed the first time after starting the car changing form 2nd to 3rd makes a grating noise. It only happens the first time, from then on its smooth. On saturday VW assist came and took the car away to MK on Tuesday it was ready. The nice tech man told me it is the abs assist starting ????

has anyone else had this problem??

Not very happy only done 170 miles. The car they loaned me was a Passat, if i wanted one of those i would have brought one and saved £20000.

Any ideas??

There are various noises that come from the Touareg at start up. I have a strange electronic noise from behind the dash when accelerating hard for the first time then it goes away.

Noise from the gear change could well be the stepper motor. Mine had very harsh shifting from 2-3 gear but there is a flash memory upgrade which makes that better.

Dont worry, the noises do subside, and then you have a great truck to cruise around in. Just remember its no sports car! mine has a nice 6k miles on it now and is the second best car I have ever owned!

ABS does a self-test on most VAG cars when you reach approx 5-10mph after starting them up. its quite normal (but does sound like a grating noise)

it is the abs assist starting and is quite normal, it let's you know that the system is armed and operational

quite comforting really........
