HGP R32 Twin Turbo hits 321Kmph at Nardo

Extract I found from Auto-Motor & Sport Magazine (05.12) in Germany the other day.....

Tranlated as much as possible.

Next to the prestige models of the premium brands, the VW Golf IV comes off as a brave little citizen, even though it's a hot R32 version. Oddly enough, the smallest member of the test field with it's loud red make-up embodies more understatement than the limousines, sports cars, and station wagons in their silver metallic and dark, somber colors. Where, one asks, does HGP manage to pack in 556 PS and 710 nm of torque in a 4.15x1.73 meter footprint? The engine compartment is packed with more stuff than a vacationer to Mallorca and almost as blue (German vacationers to Mallorca are often drunk; slang for drunk in German is "blau"--blue). But under the hood the arm-thick hoses privide a cool, clinical atmosphere, and an environment where the two KKK04 turbos and the twin intercoolers can work at their best. When things get serious, neither the Golf or the pilot take prisoners. In a noteworthy 3.7 seconds and with great spectacle the Golf R32 HGP Biturbo beams (?) itself to 100 km/h. With a top speed of 321 km/h on the GPS display after two flying laps we brought the HGP-Golf back to the pits. Unfortunately more sensational than the acceleration and the top speed is the price: 44,600 Euros for the tuning kit (alone)

Check out HGP's website..

The R32 beat the following:

Alpina BMW B7 500PS: 311Kmph

MTM RS6 ClubSport 570PS: 313Kmph

MTM A8 K500 500PS: 297Kmph

Brabus Maybach SV12 640PS: 314Kmph

Not bad for a humble family hatchback...

Gret info, but why test the R32 against cars like an A8, Maybach & 7 series BMW??

Surely with a 0-60 of sub 4 secs you would want to see track comparisons against things like GT2's etc etc??

Also, as much as I love the idea of making the R a twin turbo monster, no one mentions what this does to the car long term. Surely the car wasn't designed for such stresses, and at those prices it's not exactly cheap is it!!!

Still want one though. wink.gif

What would be nice is a more formidable road going version , say a single turbo`d version that still can maintain some kind of fuel ecconomy figures, and when you do what to whopp-ass a ferrari or something its possible.

as soon as the warenty is out this is on the beasts hit list, if it i still have it at that point ? FIREdevil.gif

I know what you are saying there Smudge. I'm sure the R would become a little more prone to requiring technical attention with mod's to that sort of power.

Although I did read somewhere that the whole transmission system is capable of handling 600+ BHP though without much difficulty, so at least that bit should hold up ok!.

Ash,

Not sure where you read your info about the R's transmision?? but VW officially rate the gearbox at 350nm of torque, approx 258 ft/lb.

The gearbox of the HPG car has internals from the RS4 and have been heat treated an shot peened to cope.

Can't see an R geartrain standing much more than 430 ft/lb and about 400ps without expensive internal work.

Riz - I think with a high speed bowl the top speed will be less than if you ran the car at a flat track so you can do some basic equation to factor in the effect of the banking of the track and approximate a more realistic top speed. Its likely that 199mph would equal 205mph on a flat road. And I also read somewhere that HGP had TUV approval which requires them to run the car flat out and that it hit 205mph. 44000 Euros is what, £25000 ish. Total investment including car is £47000. Cheapest 200mph car. Not sure how long it would run at those speeds before blowing itself up though!

  • 2 weeks later...

Couple of interestig things about the review, has anyone else noticed that HGP have added more vents to the side wings of their R? Also, the state the car was running on 235/35 ZR1's yet the wheels on the car look stock to me. OZ don't do a 19" version of the Superturismo rim, so I'm guessing it's just a typo?
