ukdcham
I part exchanged my R32 into the Swindon dealership and the guy was telling me that they have 3 for sale currently - he was due to be picking one up from another garage and it has had an AMD conversion up to Level 3 I believe. Worth a chat for someone who is looking. The used car sales guy is STEVE - their number is 01793-600010

Smudge
[off topic}Daddydub, why hold back the plates when they are on display in the pic & on the VW site? If you're worried about the spotted section rules, that only to protect the owners of the spotted car. [/back on topic]
1monty
Be wary here. Have had some terrible customer service at this place & a simple servicing job messed up on my first visit to their service department! Totally unimpressed with the sales manager and his attitude! Beast
LOL! Dont make me laugh! Went there looking for an R (having already owned one previously) to be told by some wet salesman that they are VERY rare (only 12 or so in the UK he quoted), and that the chances of me finding one for sale were very remote. So I proceeded to tell him that clearly he didnt know what he was talking about and as such I couldnt possibly trust him with my business. At which point he went on and said that I looked too young to be able to insure such a car - having not noticed the TTR that I had pulled up in! Refraining from punching him, I pointed out that I had previously owned an R and knew of at least 4 other R owners which made the propability of just 12 in the UK very small! I'l certainly not be going back there!
1monty
Yes, they knew nothing about the software upgrade, de-locking a Golf (told me any window drop problems had been solved) & were very unknowledgable about R32's! Not good but seems not unusual!!
english68
"So I proceeded to tell him that clearly he didnt know what he was talking about and as such I couldnt possibly trust him with my business." Low expectations often help when talking to a "franchised" salesperson - it is unfair to assume that they have any interest in the product they are selling whatsoever. You wouldn't expect it from most other types of retailer, after all. The average car buyer does no homework himself, believes everything the guy in the suit tells him and pays WAY over the odds for his new pride and joy and all its servicing and unnecessary repairs. He then says thank you and comes back for another one. Car salesmen have no respect for their customers as a result, but then along comes one of "us", with a little knowledge and it throws them completely! Just my 2p worth - as ever! BTW: I bought my R32 (ninetieth-odd car) from a Main Dealer, believed what he told me and said thank you. But, boy, did I whine when I found out he lied too - just like all the others! Beast
What did he lie about English68?
english68
I haven't named the dealership or the salesman. Got some (little) money off them. Don't know my position legally if I tell you.
Calm Chris
Well tell what the issue was, how did you get hood winked and tell us where you live. We get to hear the story, we can work out which VW dealer your hinting at and there's no legal repro since posted details are vague and open to debate regarding the dealer. Dish the dirt
english68
I don't live near the dealer. My uncle lives in Outer West London but has since moved (true). Issue 1 concerned just what was included in the sale. I asked, he said yes, and then it wasn't there! (Not the whole car, you understand, just the bit I was asking about!). Issue 2 concerned the owner before me - it wasn't who he said. Again, I asked the question when I saw the V5 but wasn't told the truth. Issue 3 concerned who had used it. I was told it had just arrived, actually the dealership managed to put 2k on it. It's not that anything bad happened to the car before I bought it (it was in virtually perfect order)I just wish they wouldn't treat us like idiots! It spoils the thrill of getting a new car, something I am VERY addicted to! I stood my ground on the missing item and they paid towards (not all, though) it. I know I did, because it was there - but I still don't really understand why buyers pay the massive premium demanded by Main Dealers, especially now there are a few R32s advertised privately. You loose on the asking price, you loose on your trade-in and there's no more back-up than buying it off a 'bloke in the pub'! I'll stop moaning now - I'm leaving the office and driving home in my (truly, disgustingly filthy) R32! Thank you for the therapy session - please put it on my bill! Moschops
Re: Mann Eggerton in Swindon I wouldn't entrust them with a wheel barrow to service, my wife had one of her previous, in fact 2 of her previous Polo's serviced by them, shocking service and the after service valet was a joke, looked like they'd chucked the days contents from the buckets over the car and left it to dry..... So when the wife brought it home, I took back.....and then we lit the Blue Touch paper....if you get my drift.
MattR32
There's three in Braunton (NOrth Devon) too. Here's the deal - You want to sell so they tell you demand is low, they just had one for months that would not sell, they've depreciated like a lead balloon, etc. You want to buy so they tell you they are very rare, ought after, etc. Because many mugs believe them, they make £3+k per R32. hey are totally, totally ripping us off, good service or not. Thanks to their buying power, they get away with it.
