Insurance Jon
HHmmmmmm, just spent from thursday morning till today with one of Audi W12 demo cars. It's been a mixed bag really: Plus points: Phenominaly fast, almost of quick as the rs6, but more usable in the real world as there is no turbo lag. It handles like a much smaller car, even though it was rollin on dubs. Downside, the only downside was the number of faults, and they really put me off, as the car was specced at 85k they really shouldn't have been there as it had done only 10k miles. Firstly the Adaptive cruise sensor wasn't working meaning I couldn't use that. The tyre pressure sensor was faulty telling me I had 4 flats. The handbrake sometimes failed to activate after the 3 attemps by the car after the first failure. Power steering pump screamed when reversing on half lock. It really made me realise how much I liked my 3.0, escpecially after they told me it would be 27k and my car to buy Listers stolen and recovered SWB! SneakyMcC
How can they give a billie a demo car in that state? Fecking reassuring for any willing to punt £85k into the abyss of depreciation!
Chris_B
Shame there were so many problems; *touches wood* I've been reasonably OK with mine. TPM once complained that all four tyres were yellow-level flat and continued to do so despite me being able to see that the pressures and temperatures were OK. It behaved itself after being shut off for over 20 minutes. I also had MMI shut itself down completely and refuse to do more than show me a boot screen before shutting down again, that requires the battery out for 2 hours to reset. Apart from that, it's been fine and dandy, got my first service coming up soon (must book it in actually), and once it's got 7 or 8 thousand miles on and loosens up a bit, I think it's faster than the RS 6 (perhaps not the plus though, eh?). If you get another chance for a demo car, try putting the parking brake on in D at traffic lights and hit the accelerator right to kick-down point when the lights go green (with the parking brake still on) - it winds up a couple of thousand RPMs and peak torque, then releases the brakes. So, you keeping the 3.0D? Sounds like the faults could have happened to any A8. I suppose the advantage of collecting from the factory is that it gets a German factory PDI, not a UK dealer one... Insurance Jon
I think apart from the faults the problem is I test drove a LWB, and even my 3.0 handled better with the sports pack and SWB. I just didn't think it was worth me losing £10k on mine in 3months (propably due to the fact that I'm not used to losing money on cars) and paying 27k to change into a car that has been stolen and recovered, even though it was for a very short time.
