MattR32
Look forward to reading what you think of the new 3 - Looks like a tasty package. 258bhp too! No can I get one with 14" steel wheels to keep thieves at bay?!
blackjack
[ QUOTE ] Alfa V6, the Audi 5 cylinder 2.1, Jag's straight 6. there are soooo many great engines out there. [/ QUOTE ] I'd also add the original Saab turbo because of its importance in automotive history and of course its performance. A Triumph for Sweden in more ways than one. CarMad
There could be a lot more engines than those listed. However as it says in the first post this is of recent years. i.e. in the last 5-7 years. The Saab turbo was a very influencial engine. But this was also looking for cars that have supreme POWER or REFINEMENT or it might just be the NOISE that it makes.

[/ QUOTE ] Correct, the original Saab Turbo was based upon a Triumph slant 4 engine, so called because it slants at an angle because it's essentially 1/2 a V8 (in this case the ill starred Triumph Stag engine). Moff S3
I honestly think the F20C 2 litre S2000 engine is one of the best engines ever made. Its won engine of the year award in its class nearly every year since it entered production. 237bhp from a n/a 2.0 engine is an amazing achievement, even more so given its amazing reliability and ability to rev all day to its 9200rpm limit. The S2000 does not need a 6 cylinder engine as it would ruin its great 50/50 weight distribution. Some people moan of a lack of torque, but I would disagree. Its all down to driving style. Some people get it and its suited to them others don't. I am used to the low down torque of my old Audi S3, but its linear response of power was a little dull for me. The kick in the arse that the S2000 gives at 6k and the way it pulls all the way to 9k is amazing. Who cares about torque when if can do 14 second 0-100's and is a amazing on a track Drive it like you stole it but not in the wet
phatgixer
I reckon there are 5 engines in modern cars worthy of note. M3CSL for the linear power delivery and induction noise Ferrari 360 CS for the bark Honda S2000 for 9,000 rpm Merc SL55 for the nascar effect Merc SL65 for massive smooth power ...but non of these are patch on the little miracle nestling in my GSXR1000. Just in a different league I'm afraid.
